Chainsaw Man chapter 184 was expected to focus on Denji and Asa Mitaka as the former enacted his plan of escape and explained what logic behind it. Officially released on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, the manga instead saw Denji begin his plan with no explanation, the first stage of which seemingly focused on running laps.
Chainsaw Man chapter 184 likewise didn’t see Denji explain his plan, instead confirming that whatever it was, his act of running laps marked the start of it. Fans also saw the Aging Devil finally reappear in this world Asa and Denji are trapped within, attempting to strike a deal with Denji, which reflects Pochita’s true feelings in the process.
Chainsaw Man chapter 184 sees Denji reject an offer from Aging and double down on his plan
Chainsaw Man chapter 184 begins with Asa Mitaka and Denji returning to the area where the Devil Hunter was trapped for 82 years. He’s still screaming while clutching the tree, with Asa sitting down nearby while Denji runs laps around the lake. Asa asks War Devil Yoru if she has any idea why he’s been running laps since saying he had a plan, to which she suggests he’s just fleeing from reality like the Devil Hunter is.
As Denji runs, the Aging Devil’s head pops out of a tree and points out that he has to have realized the situation he’s in by now. Aging tells Denji he’ll save him if he does as he says, but Denji just keeps on running. As he does so, Aging chases him from tree to tree and tells him to convince the Chainsaw Man in reality to eat the Aging Devil. Denji asks what Aging gets out of it, which he says is simply many children being slaughtered.
Chainsaw Man chapter 18 sees him add that all Denji needs to do is sacrifice the lives of those children and he’ll be saved. Denji calls Aging an especially evil Devil while adding that Chainsaw Man is a superhero. He adds that Pochita likely didn’t eat the Aging Devil because he wasn’t willing to kill other kids to save himself. Aging adds that Denji seems optimistic again, to which Denji asks if this is a problem, to which Aging responds by saying it’s not.
Aging furthers that he’s just surprised Denji has moved on this quickly, especially after finding out Control Devil Nayuta, his family member, died. Aging asserts that if Denji has already bounced back emotionally, then he can’t have loved Nayuta very much. Denji responds that Aging doesn’t know anything about their relationship and that at some point, he’ll find family again somewhere else.
Chainsaw Man chapter 184 sees Denji add that even if that found family dies, then he’ll find another new family, and so on. Denji says it’s “tough luck” for the bad guys, calling this act of determination a perpetual motion machine. Denji even adds that if anyone wants to do something with his heart, then they need to give him a family again first, smiling as he screams this and continues running.
Aging, in shock, says that he thought Denji would listen, but calls him even stupider than Pochita. Aging asks what Denji’s plan is, asserting that he can’t run his way out of this world. Denji slows down at this, as a panel focuses in on his stomach before the issue ends on him saying his escape plan is already in motion.
In summation
While Chainsaw Man chapter 184 doesn’t explicitly outline what Denji’s plan is as some thought it would, it does at least tease Denji’s intentions in the final panels. Likewise, it seems that Denji’s plan is predicated on hunger given the focus on his stomach in these final panels. Perhaps Famine Devil Fami will get involved in the series once again, proving to be an integral part of rescuing Denji and Asa Mitaka/War Devil Yoru from the Aging Devil’s world.
