With Denji’s plan already underway as of the previous installment’s events, fans were expecting Chainsaw Man chapter 185 to, at minimum, all but see Denji’s plan completed. Officially released on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the installment did indeed see Denji’s plan completed, which ended with the successful revival of Pochita in reality.

Chainsaw Man chapter 185 likewise set up an exciting and action-packed string of chapters to begin with the next installment, also revealing the Aging Devil’s status. However, this update won’t be as positive for fans as the others were, with Pochita potentially walking into a trap based on the issue’s final scenes.

Chainsaw Man chapter 185 sees Denji put everything in Pochita’s hands

Chainsaw Man chapter 185 begins with the Aging Devil confirming that its world has no exit. He also confirms that every tree in it was originally human and that after one or two thousand years of trying to escape, they arrived at some sort of answer. It’s implied here that this answer turned them into trees, with Aging confirming this by saying his power isn’t what triggers their transformations.

He instead says it’s a mechanism innate to humans, asserting that when they reach the culmination of thought, they turn into trees. Aging furthers that if they lived longer, humans could discover unseen concepts and that it wants humans to live longer in order to find these possibilities, even if it comes at a cost. This prompts a shift in focus to reality, where Aging Devil is now in the courtyard where the Japanese government officials were seen meeting.

Aging is even using the former Minister of Finance, Tadashi Hasegawa, as its throne. Tadashi is seemingly crying while saying it’s exactly as the Aging Devil says, asserting that he himself must live longer for mankind and lead the world in the right direction. Aging seemingly ignores this while asking Denji how he intends to escape on his own. Denji then explains that he just ran to make himself hungry, since his stomach isn’t in the Aging Devil’s world.

Chainsaw Man chapter 185 shows Aging speechless at this while Denji returns to Asa Mitaka, who says she’s normally better at making things but cobbled together an axe like Denji wanted. She says she used a tooth from the Bitterness Devil for the blade, prompting Denji to begin chopping down one of the trees. The Devil Hunter whom Asa and Yoru first met here, still climbing a tree, looks over in shock at what Denji is doing.

He tries to explain to Denji that the tree is a person, which Denji says he’s well aware of. Chainsaw Man chapter 185 sees him take another swing at the tree person, busting open its insides in a geyser of intestines and blood. Denji scoops up some of these innards and eats them to the shock and disgust of both Asa and the Devil Hunter.

Chainsaw Man chapter 185 then sees Denji pull his starter cord, which allows Pochita to roar back to life in reality and regrow all of his lost limbs. Now back at full power, Denji says he’s counting on Pochita, as the Aging Devil finally understands Denji’s plan. The issue ends with the Aging Devil warning the members of Public Safety present that the titular hero will soon be heading to their location.

In summation

Chapter 185 is a short, but exciting and incredibly informative issue that is still effective at setting up an exciting near future for the series. Especially exciting are the implications behind Denji and Pochita’s connection, which is what allowed Denji’s plan to succeed. While this issue unfortunately brings a break week with it, fans are nevertheless thrilled with where the story is going.
