Heading into the release of the 184th chapter of mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man series, fans were fairly confident that they knew what to expect. However, the issue’s official release on Tuesday, November 11, 2024, saw chapter 184 go in a wildly different direction. Rather than focusing on the Aki and Power flashback, multiple brief retrospectives were given as Denji mused on his life thus far.

Excitingly, one of these flashbacks saw Denji think of Bomb Girl Reze, categorizing her as one of many people Denji loves or loved per his own words in chapter 184. Understandably, the Chainsaw Man fandom is going wild not just for this return of Reze to the series, but also for Denji’s words on his feelings for her.

Chainsaw Man confirms Denji loved Reze in her latest cameo

Reze’s appearance in Chainsaw Man chapter 13 comes during a flashback sequence that sees Denji thinking about all the people he’s loved who left him eventually. Also appearing in this sequence are Aki Hayakawa and Power, whom he even refers to as his family here, and Control Devil Nayuta. Her appearance also includes the multiple pet dogs they had and their cat Meowy (who was once Power’s pet).

It’s an incredibly significant scene for many reasons, but fans are understandably honing in on what Reze’s inclusion says. Firstly, it confirms that Denji truly did love her, a relatively significant point of contention among the fanbase since the Reze Arc’s conclusion. Thankfully, chapter 183 makes it plainly clear that Denji did indeed love Reze as he did Aki, Power, and Nayuta.

However, this is also significant in that Denji loved Reze to the point where their bond is something he can use to spur on his own motivation for life. In other words, chapter 183 not only confirms Denji’s true feelings for Reze but also the significance of the role she played and will continue to presumably posthumously play in Denji’s life.

Fan reaction

Understandably, Chainsaw Man fans are ecstatic to see Reze back in the series once again, even if it’s just a brief flashback appearance. Many are simply celebrating her return for the simple fact of her appearance, rather than exploring her inclusion and its deeper meanings:

“#csm183 aki, power, reze, nayuta, AND MEOWY mention in ONE CHAPTER?” excitingly posted one reader.
“Oh how I missed you Reze… #csm183,” solemnly shared another.
“#csm183
it’s been 84 years Reze,” celebrated a third.

However, there are other fans exploring the deeper meanings behind Reze’s reappearance and its context as seen in chapter 183.

“Aside from needing to get the bitter taste out of his mouth, Denji racing to the water is also connected to Reze teaching him how to swim and them ending up in the ocean together, Fujimoto is so smart bro
#CSM183,” theorized one fan.
“#csm183 DENJI HAVING FLASHBACKS OF POWER AKI AND REZE WHEN THINKING ABOUT PEOPLE HE LOVES OH MY GODDDD,” pointed out a third.
“All the people I love… I love… he said LOVE.
He loved Nayuta and the pets, he loved Reze, he loved Aki and Power. He loved them all in a similar way, and none of them were in the romantic sense. It’s more than that,” confidently claimed another fan.

In any case, it’s clear that fans are excited to see Reze both back in the manga period and with such a significant meaning behind her unexpected reappearance. Hopefully, Denji continues to muse on his relationship with her as the series continues, giving fans more reunion opportunities likewise.
