The author of Spy x Family was the assistant of Chainsaw Man's author in the past, even though their works hardly share a similarity. However, the release of the latest installment of Tatsuya Endo's magnum opus had fans wondering if the 'Fujimoto effect' might finally be in action, given the plot twist that was introduced.
The recent chapter saw Melinda Besmond accuse her husband of being an alien, adding a nice twist of 'fantasy' to the series. Tatsuki Fujimoto is known for such twists, especially in his magnum opus, whose latest installment saw the return of Yoshida. So, the future of Spy x Family might change completely, and this might be Tatsuki Fujimoto's doing.

What is the recent debate regarding the relationship between Spy x Family and Chainsaw Man?
Spy x Family chapter 109 saw Melinda Desmond, the wife of Donovan Desmond, visit Loid Forger's clinic for therapy. She was facing headaches and a loss of appetite due to which, on the recommendation of Yor Forger, she visited Loid. While she was wary of the male protagonist at the start, she eventually opened up.
However, what she revealed was nothing short of a surprise. After asking Loid Forger about his knowledge of UFOs, Melinda revealed that her husband was an alien. While the legitimacy of this revelation couldn't be confirmed (as the chapter ended after this), it did indicate that the series' future might see a huge turn that might change the image of Donovan Desmond, the series' main antagonist.
Chainsaw Man chapter 188 saw the return of Yoshida as Denji vomited the Public Safety Devil Hunter inside the Aging Devil's time-space. While this twist was expected, it becoming canon was still shocking. The link between the former series' latest installment to the latter might be due to their author's relationship.
Tatsuya Endo (Spy x Family) was the assistant of Tatsuki Fujimoto (Chainsaw Man) in the past before he became an independent manga author. What fans speculate is that the former author might be inspired by the latter, given how fond Fujimoto is of plot twists, and introduced the 'alien' twist to his manga. The fans termed this as the "Fujimoto effect."
Reaction from fans
Fans were bewildered, to say the least, as even those who had not read the chapter wondered whether Melinda's confession was legit. On the other hand, some fans gave their insight into Melinda's recent confession, stating that it was only a manner of speech and hinting that Donovan might just be a strange man.
However, some fans were happy for the author because he might finally be writing what he wanted to. This might be related to the recent controversy related to Tatsuya Endo when the author stated that he doesn't like his characters. Finally, one fan questioned the "Fujimoto effect" and argued that Tatsuya was older than the Chainsaw Man author and that what he did in the most recent chapter was not inspired by the latter.
"Is this a actual page from the manga?" a fan said
"It’s probably just “alien” in another more normal way," another fan said
"Tatsuya is finally writing what he wants to make, not what he was forced to in order to live off his craft," another one said
"Tatsuya is older and more experienced that Fujimoto." another one claimed
Final thoughts
The recent plot twist in Spy x Family might have a lot of hints, not from the series but from the author's career. As stated before, Tatsuya Endo has expressed his lack of interest in his characters which might be due to the setting of his manga series. So, the author might finally be taking inspiration from the person for whom he previously worked as an assistant, Tatsuki Fujimoto.
