Heading into chapter 181’s release, there was plenty that Chainsaw Man fans were discussing online following recent events. The chief concern was what Asa Mitaka/War Devil Yoru and Denji’s current situation was in the Aging Devil’s world. On a similar note, fans were also curious to learn what the method of escape from the Aging Devil’s world was.

Chainsaw Man chapter 181 seemingly answered this question via the unnamed Devil Hunter Asa met in chapter 180. Per this character, people stuck in the Aging Devil’s world will first turn into trees after being there for a millennium. Once they turn into trees, they can leave when the tree rots and becomes soil, uniting their body and mind with nature.

This put context to the Aging Devil’s words in Chainsaw Man chapter 179 of the War Devil and Pochita (whom it called the Chainsaw Devil) needing to grow up. However, this reveal may also explain the curious behavior and demeanor of fan-favorite character and alleged high schooler Hirofumi Yoshida.

Yoshida’s behavior in Chainsaw Man being unbecoming of a high schooler may have finally been explained

One of the most consistent assessments of Hirofumi Yoshida’s character in Chainsaw Man is that he doesn’t act like a high schooler despite being one. His behavior is generally more mature than that of a high school student, especially when he’s doing his Devil Hunter duties. There’s also the fact that he has the respect of Kishibe as a Devil Hunter despite being relatively inexperienced compared to him.

It also explains why he could tell it like it is throughout the Academy Saga. Despite constantly threatening Denji with his own life and Control Devil Nayuta’s, he does so without any sign of regret or discomfort. This is further supported by his actions in the Public Safety Saga, such as killing Joey and bearing a smile on his face in the immediate aftermath.

Relating to Kishibe’s respect for him, Yoshida also seemingly has the experience and strength needed to keep up with Quanxi, at least to a certain extent. Considering how highly lauded Quanxi’s strength is as a fighter and Devil Hunter, it seems unlikely that someone so allegedly young could do so.

There’s also the fact that his knowledge of Makima is shown to be relatively in-depth in Chainsaw Man. It seems unlikely that an average high schooler would be given access to such significant information, even if they were relatively high up in Public Safety. It’s more likely that Yoshida is instead intimately familiar with Devils on a similar level of Primal Fears, such as the Four Horsemen Devils.

All of this can be explained by his having been the one to escape from the Aging Devil’s world. His maturity comes from his advanced mental age via living in Aging’s world, while his skills likely come from extreme training in Aging’s world. His intimate knowledge of Devils could come from striking a deal with or getting a reward from Aging upon escaping. As someone who has already lived and died in another world, he has no fear of death as a concept.

Final thoughts

While it’s still unknown exactly who the Devil Hunter that escaped from Aging Devil’s world is, the reveal of the process for escaping lends further credence to it being Yoshida. In addition to all the other signals for this, it would explain one of the most enigmatic aspects of his character.
