While the latest Chainsaw Man chapter was far from what fans were expecting, it was nevertheless as enjoyable an installment as any other in the series. What made the last release particularly unique was it being a perfect example of how unpredictable mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto can be.
This was highlighted primarily via a major subversion of fan expectations in terms of what the issue would see unfold. Fans were convinced a massive fight seeing War Devil Yoru and Pochita unite against the Aging Devil would take place. However, the Aging Devil instead sent Yoru/Asa Mitaka and an untransformed Denji to a Garden of Eden-esque world it had made.
While Chainsaw Man chapter 180 established several key points of the world, one of the most significant was that only one person had ever escaped of their own accord. Although the issue didn’t reveal their identity, this ultimate Devil Hunter capable of besting even a Primal Fear Devil is likely one of three known characters.
Chainsaw Man chapter 180’s Garden of Eden escapee is likely one of three previously introduced characters
One of the most likely candidates for Chainsaw Man’s ultimate Devil Hunter is obviously Quanxi. For starters, she’s known as The First Devil Hunter and is considered one of the strongest, if not the single strongest Devil Hunter in the entire series. Her title and status could explain how she escaped the Aging Devil’s world.
Similarly, Quanxi’s age in the series is currently unknown. However, fans do know that in the time Kishibe has aged significantly since first meeting her, her appearance has remained almost unchanged. This and her status as The First Devil Hunter could both be fully explained by such a reveal; she doesn’t age because her victory over the Aging Devil earned her both immortality and the literally accurate title of The First Devil Hunter.
While these facts make Quanxi the most likely candidate in Chainsaw Man, Fumiko Mifune is also one possibility. Although her skills as a Devil Hunter are seemingly lackluster, the responsibilities she’s given and her apparent status within Public Safety suggest her to be important. Her apparently lackluster skills could also have been a front in order to ensure Denji and Control Devil Nayuta perceived her in a very specific way.
One final possibility that fans are currently exploring is Hirofumi Yoshida. On the surface, Yoshida seems to be a true possibility given some key dialogue and appearances in the series thus far. Firstly, he once said that “even a first-rate hunter can’t beat aging” in Part 1. Extra artwork from one of the manga’s compilation volumes also shows a seemingly dejected Yoshida in a forest which looks similar to the Aging Devil’s world.
However, Yoshida seems unlikely for reasons such as his role in the series so far. For example, he seems to be relatively low in the chain of command for Public Safety, doing grunt work rather than assuming a role like Makima or Kishibe. There’s also the fact that the Aging Devil didn’t recognize him when they fought against Pochita together. Aging even took notice of Yoshida here enough to compliment him, suggesting he’d have recognized him here.
Final thoughts
With all of this in mind, the identity of the escapee from the Aging Devil’s world which Chainsaw Man chapter 180 introduces is likely either Quanxi or Fumiko Mifune. It also could be a brand new character whom fans will soon meet, but in terms of previously introduced characters, the two Public Safety employees are the most likely.
