Dandadan chapter 178 began with Seiko standing back up to fight with Kashimoto and Payase. Kashimoto’s powers were shown to rely on the manipulation of spirit guardians, with the one he uses in the issue seemingly being capable of generating flames. Payase’s powers, meanwhile, involve becoming one with the shadows and silently but fatally attacking enemies from them with almost immediate success.

While these attacks were effective against the jiangshi as Seiko raced to grab her bag, the Iron Bull proved much more resistant to them. Kashimoto’s attacks were shown to have an effect, but weren’t powerful enough on their own to fully incapacitate the Iron Bull. Seiko almost got her bag back as they kept fighting, but was knocked out by the Iron Bull at the last second and severely injured as a result.

Kashimoto tries to intervene, but is knocked away, as is Payase who tries to steal the bag from the bull from the shadows. The Iron Bull then takes Seiko hostage, who tells Kashimoto and Payase to keep attacking, eventually knocking the Iron Bull’s arms off. This was revealed to be due to it not sensing how damaged it was, and Kashimoto’s flames being of a cold temperature. The issue ended with their victory as the Iron Bull tried to warn them of who was after them.

What to expect from Dandadan chapter 179 (speculative)

Dandadan chapter 179 should begin with Payase, Kashimoto, and Seiko taking a moment to rest and recover after their brutal fight with the Iron Bull. This will likely be done just outside the restaurant they were at as police, EMS, and other emergency responders arrive. However, Seiko and co should be uninvolved with them at this point, instead discussing what their next move is in the context of the Iron Bull’s attempted final words.

Seiko will likely theorize that they aren’t the only ones being targeted currently, which should lead to her asking Payase and Kashimoto to train Okarun and Momo, respectively. However, the issue should end with them arriving at Daikokuten’s shrine before starting that training, announcing their intent to find the uchide-no-kozuchi and return Momo to full size as the issue ends.
