Dandadan chapter 179 was expected to fully bring an end to Seiko Ayase and co’s fight against the Iron Bull and its jiangshi allies following their latest attack. Officially released on Tuesday, December 31, 202 in Japan, the issue did indeed take this approach, opening up with the Iron Bull’s “death” in a way that some fans weren’t expecting.
However, Dandadan chapter 179 throws this curveball for good reason, all but confirming Count Saint-Germain was behind this attack and also expanding on what his plan could be. Fans also see Saint-Germain return in the issue’s final pages and panels, teasing what he’ll next be up to and potentially setting up Turbo Granny’s return.
Dandadan chapter 179 seemingly works towards Turbo Granny’s return via Saint-Germain’s next moves
Dandadan chapter 179: The Iron Bull’s identity
Dandadan chapter 179 opens up immediately where the last issue ended, showing the Iron Bull’s death at Seiko Ayase’s hands. However, much to her shock, Payase, and Kashimoto, a businessman with a large nose instead appear where the Iron Bull was, begging for forgiveness and to be spared death. Payase, who now has shark-like pointed teeth, and Kashimoto question what’s going on, while Seiko asks why he targeted her.
He says he was contacted by an “orchestrator” who told him to target the “woman with glasses” at the restaurant she was in. Seiko runs to the window to see if she can spot this “orchestrator,” seemingly spotting someone giving off a malevolent aura as they’re walking away. She furthers that this person must have been controlling the jiangshi, asking the businessman who the two are and ordering they be contacted to come here.
However, Dandadan chapter 179 sees the businessman explain that they only met today and don’t know each other’s names due to how the Orchestrator gives orders. Multiple people will get text messages with minimal info, leading to multiple people attacking the same target in cases such as this. Kashimoto demands an explanation, prompting the man to pull out three of the tiny power-stealing knives Count Saint-Germain has seemingly been handing out.
What’s notable here is that two of them have black handles as previously seen, while the third has a white one. Payase recognizes them as kozuka knives, with Seiko also knowing what they are and questioning why he has so many copies. She explains what they are by discussing the “Asura” sword, which was said to force its holder to kill others continuously until their life ended. However, the sword could also take on a yokai’s power and cut down any master swordsman.
This led to a group of magi sealing it away securely due to how dangerous it was. However, Dandadan chapter 179 reveals that the blade was stolen five years ago, with the knives in front of them being the kozuka of that sword. The businessman explains he and others like him are told to use them to gather the power of yokai, with those who gather many being granted “whatever they wish.”
Payase immediately ridicules the man for falling for such a stupid belief, prompting him to explain his wife only has a year left to live. He explains that he always had trouble talking to girls since he was young, always getting nervous and “clamming up.” This led him to panic even more, running away as a result. He said this was the case until he was 40, having given up on love at that point. However, this is when he met his current wife.
Dandadan chapter 179: Saint-Germain’s next moves teased
Dandadan chapter 179 shows the couple speaking and walking with each other as he explains she always waited for his words to come out. He says she gave him her time and saved him likewise, adding that he’ll take even a 1% chance of saving her as he sobs. Seiko asks how he became acquainted with the Orchestrator, which he says came via a friend at work introducing them on the grounds of the Orchestrator being able to help his wife.
Kashimoto asks who the colleague is, and the man says he doesn’t know because they never existed. He explains that no one he asked knew of such a person existing and that the name also wasn’t found in the company register. He claims to have worked with them for a long time as far as he remembers, but also can’t remember their face, clothes, or any details about them.
Dandadan chapter 179 then immediately shifts focus to Count Saint-Germain, who is at Momo Ayase and Ken “Okarun” Takakura’s school in his Sanjome disguise. This is all evidenced by what seems to be a gym teacher calling him Sanjome while asking if he’s seen someone named Adachi. Saint-Germain asks why it matters, to which the gym teacher says they’re going to a singles mixer. He invites Saint-Germain to come as well, which he agrees to.
Focus then returns to the restaurant where Seiko and Co had their fight. Masamichi Bega is the officer called to the scene, questioning restaurant staff about what happened. The businessman is seen being escorted by police, said by the staff to be the only one up there alone by the time they peeked upstairs. Bega asks if there were people before that, which the staff say there were while describing Seiko, Payase, and Kashimoto.
However, Dandadan chapter 179 sees the staff say they have no idea when they left despite the trio paying their bill. Bega seemingly senses the auras of the trio and locates them in the crowd, approaching them as Seiko says she’ll focus on Momo while they investigate this. Bega asks to speak to them, but as he goes to pull out his notepad, they escape onto the nearby roofs via Payase’s shadow powers as the issue ends.
Dandadan chapter 179: In summation
Chapter 179 is a particularly exciting entry in recent weeks as it provides the clearest path forward for the series yet. While Saint-Germain is focused on recruiting his next grunt at the single’s event, Seiko will find the uchide-no-kozuchi and return Momo to the proper size. As this happens, Payase and Kashimoto will likely find some sort of lead for Seiko, Momo, and their allies to locate or identify Saint-Germain with.
This also excitingly provides a path ahead for Turbo Granny’s return by nature of Dandadan chapter 179 establishing a coming focus on Saint-Germain. More likely than not, his outing to find a new worker bee will instead lead to him meeting Turbo Granny. This should also set up the explanation of their relationship in the near future, something first teased in the Space Globalists Arc.
