The series is set to stream on both Crunchyroll and Netflix during the Fall 2024 anime season internationally with English subtitles as the series airs weekly in Japan. As of this article’s writing, an English dub has been shown as in production via a trailer, but no other language dubs are currently confirmed.

Dandadan episode 1 began with Momo Ayase being broken up with, explaining to her friends that she only dated the boy because he looked like Ken Takakura. As she strolled the halls and lamented her fate, she saw a boy being bullied in a classroom. She intervened by sitting with him, but left before they began talking.

However, the boy followed her out into the hall, and asserted that she must also be into UFOs and UAPs if she approached him. Momo rejected this, but the boy pressed on, prompting her to begin shouting at him about how she wasn’t in the mood and he needed to take a hint. However, she apologized before walking away, allowing the conversation to continue.

This led to them fighting over which was real—aliens (which the boy believed existed) or ghosts (which Momo believed existed). The two made a bet to see which among the two was real by each going to a paranormal hotspot that night. However, they discovered that both aliens and ghosts were real, with Momo being abducted and the boy (nicknamed Okarun by Momo) being possessed.

Okarun eventually made his way onto the ship where Momo was, using his newfound powers to fight. Momo also awakened powers of her own, resulting in their successful escape. The episode ended with Okarun revealing his name to be Ken Takakura, which seemingly left Momo smitten.

What to expect from Dandadan episode 2 (speculative)

Dandadan episode 2 will likely begin with Momo and Okarun brainstorming on how to absolve him of the Turbo Granny’s curse. This should also expand the details behind Momo’s powers, which are the only thing keeping the curse at bay currently.

It may also lead to the introduction of Momo’s mother, who she alleged was a spirit medium. Likewise, she could play a key role in both shedding Okarun of his curse and helping Momo refine her abilities.

Episode 2 is also likely to introduce some sort of new supernatural creature, either an alien or a spirit. However, an alien seems most likely given that the storyline of Okarun being possessed has yet to be resolved. If this is the case, it may suggest that the series’ plot will revolve around Okarun being possessed by different spirits, at least in its opening stages.

At a minimum, however, fans can expect to learn what the protagonistic pair’s next moves are.
