Days with My Stepsister episode 1 recap
The episode begins with monologues from Saki Ayase and Yuta Asamura, where they both share the same opinion that step-siblings are ultimately strangers because they have no shared experience of living together.
Following a rather introspective opening scene, the episode shifts to the actual narrative, with Yuta finding out that his father has decided to remarry and that he will have a stepsister. After work, he meets his new mother, Akiko, and stepsister, Saki Ayase, at the dinner party.
Yuta discovers that Saki is the same age as him. Interestingly, Saki is relieved that Yuta isn't a scary person, as she feared. After the dinner, they share a conversation, where Saki requests Yuta not to have any expectations from her.

Yuta is relieved because Saki shares the same philosophy as him. They promise to keep their boundaries and maintain a comfortable distance. The episode then time-skips to Sunday, when Akiko and Saki finally shift to Yuta's place.
A light-hearted moment follows as Yuta's father works tirelessly to ensure the house remains clean. Meanwhile, the protagonist and his stepsister discuss their plans moving forward. They don't want to make each other's life difficult.
At the same time, they discuss friendship and life in general. Days go by, and Saki begins to adjust to her new life at Yuta's place. Then one day, they find out that they go to the same school. Saki feels Yuta shouldn't disclose their familial relationship to his schoolmates.

Following that, Yuta is seen working as a part-timer at a store. He asks his co-worker how he and Saki are supposed to act as brother and sister, with no shared experience of living together before. His co-worker suggests he should take it naturally.
Yuta returns home at night after work and notices Saki Ayase, who forgets to greet him. After sharing a meaningful conversation with Saki, the protagonist goes to take a bath. The episode ends on a rather melancholic note, with both Yuta and Saki trying to settle into their new roles as stepsiblings.
What to expect in Days with My Stepsister episode 2? (speculative)
Days with My Stepsister episode 2 will be titled A Deal and a Fried Egg. The episode could show the reason why Saki wanted to stay unrelated to Yuta in her school. As revealed by the preview trailer for the next episode, the reason behind this is because of her risky clothing which attracts the attention of everyone.
As indicated by the title of the episode, it would also see the step-siblings enjoy a conversation over a fried egg (breakfast) but fans can expect a deeper meaning behind this. With the first episode having an eerie darkness behind it, will the series be as dark as it looks like?
