Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc episode 7: Himejima’s past is revealed as Muzan and Ubuyashiki have their first encounter

Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc episode 7, titled "Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima," aired on Sunday, June 23, 2024, at 11:15 pm JST. The episode discloses the past of Stone Hashira Gyomei Himejima.

Tanjiro finishes his Hashira training with Himejima and moves on to train under Water Hashira Giyu Tomioka, where he briefly encounters Wind Hashira Sanemi Shinazugawa. Sanemi realizes that demons have infiltrated their headquarters while Muzan appears at Master Ubyashiki’s mansion, marking their first encounter.

Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc episode 7 opens with Zenitsu’s Kasugai crow (sparrow), Chuntaro, carrying a letter. The scene then shifts to where the previous episode left off, showing Tanjiro and Inosuke moving the boulder, as Zenitsu falls behind. At this moment, Chuntaro delivers the letter to Zenitsu.

Later, Tanjiro finally completes moving his boulder one cho, marking his completion of Himejima’s Hashira training. However, he collapses from extreme dehydration as soon as he finishes boulder training. As he thinks he’ll die, Himejima comes to his rescue, providing him with water and expressing his acknowledgment of Tanjiro.

Despite this, Tanjiro humbly denies Himejima's acknowledgment, feeling unworthy, which prompts Himejima to further explain his reasons, connected to his past.

Himejima shares that he once cared for orphans at a temple, where they lived peacefully until one disobeyed the rule to return by nightfall and encountered a demon. To save his own life, the child led the demon to the temple, extinguished the wisteria incense that protected them, and offered the others to the demon. Tragically, all except the youngest, Sayo, disobeyed Himejima's instructions and got killed.

Tanjiro is surprised to learn that Himejima is blind. Despite his blindness, Himejima fought the demon with unwavering determination, defeating it and saving Sayo. However, Sayo falsely accused Himejima of killing the children. Himejima states this must be because of the panic and confusion, but her lie deeply scarred him as it changed his whole life.

With the demon's body turning to dust in daylight, there was no evidence to prove his innocence. Himejima then faced imprisonment and a death sentence for murder. It was only because of Master Ubuyashiki’s intervention that saved him. This ordeal left him with doubts, including toward Tanjiro.

However, witnessing Tanjiro's earnest actions and honesty convinced him of Tanjiro's worthiness. Himejima states Tanjiro has earned his respect and announces that Tanjiro’s training under him is over. He promises to stand by Tanjiro's side from now on, to which Tanjiro responds with heartfelt gratitude.

In episode 7, Tanjiro briefly chats with Genya and Inosuke, informing them he finished Himejima’s training and is moving ahead to train under Giyu. Later, he brings food to Zenitsu, whose troubled behavior concerns Tanjiro. Zenitsu expresses gratitude but insists on handling his issues alone.

The episode then shifts focus to Tanjiro arriving at Giyu’s training grounds, where he comes across Giyu sparring with the Wind Hashira, Sanemi. Tanjiro realizes he can now keep up with the Hashiras’ movements. After both their wooden swords break, Sanemi proposes a fistfight, but Tanjiro misunderstands and intervenes, leading to an argument between him and Sanemi once again.

During the argument, he reveals that Sanemi’s favorite food is Ohagi. Sanemi becomes angry and sends Tanjiro flying, knocking him unconscious. Tanjiro wakes up later with Giyu by his side, who explains that Sanemi has departed and that their confrontation was only part of their Hashira training.

In the concluding scenes of Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc episode 7, Sanemi stumbles upon one of Nakime’s eyes while returning from Giyu’s training grounds. Upon crushing it, he realizes that demons have infiltrated the Demon Slayer Headquarters.

The scene then shifts to Master Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s mansion, where his wife tends to his wounds. Muzan Kibutsuji appears at the mansion and heads toward Kagaya’s room. The episode ends as Ubuyashiki and Muzan come face to face for the first time.
