The Demon Slayer manga series has concluded and despite its end, fans continue to discuss various topics from this series. Some elements in the series haven’t received much explanation. This is why fans continue to discuss these topics to this day.

One recurring element in the animanga series is the Blue Spider Lily. Despite its importance in the series, there isn’t all that much we know about it, except for the fact that it blooms during the day and a couple of times a year. We also know that it grows in places where there is constant exposure to sunlight as well. It is a crucial element that led to Muzan becoming the first-ever demon in the series.

His transformation is what caused the death of hundreds of thousands of deaths that spanned a couple of hundred years. Fans who have been reading the series realized that the fruit is quite similar to a particular species of jellyfish.

Disclaimer: This article contains massive spoilers from the manga chapters.

Demon Slayer: How the Blue Spider Lily could be connected to a unique species of jellyfish

The unique species of jellyfish in question is referred to as the Immortal Jellyfish. The reason for its name is due to a process called transdifferentiation. Essentially, the jellyfish can regenerate its cells following its death. The body decays following its death, and the cells regenerate, which leads to the creation of polys and a new jellyfish emerges.

Fans of the anime and manga series came across this interesting creature and had reasons to believe that it could have been the inspiration behind the Blue Spider Lily. This is a flower that was a crucial ingredient in the medicine that was created by the Heian doctor. He was responsible for treating Muzan, who at the time had an unknown illness that needed to be treated.

The lack of progress angered Muzan and he killed the doctor in haste. Since he became a demon, he needed the Blue Spider Lily but always failed to get his hands on them. The flower would have helped him conquer the sun and in turn, achieve immortality. This was the Demon King’s goal for the longest time. This is also why he created other demons with the hope of retrieving them at some point in his life.

Furthermore, the shape of a Spider Lily and the Immortal Jellyfish bear a certain degree of resemblance. Therefore, Koyoharu Gotouge could have chosen the Spider Lily based on this resemblance, making it the most important piece of the puzzle, which is immortality. Furthermore, the Immortal Jellyfish also has a bluish appearance owing to the ocean, another similarity between these two elements.

Therefore, it is possible that the Blue Spider Lily was inspired by this unique jellyfish. However, neither the manga nor the author has explained the inspiration behind the Blue Lily Spider. We urge the fanbase to take this information with a grain of salt and patiently wait for the author to comment on the same.
