With the release of Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8, the anime concluded the Hashira Training Arc, giving way to the Infinity Castle Arc. However, the anime's end saw several incidents take place one after the other, the most prominent one of which was the death of Demon Slayer Corps Leader Kagaya Ubuyashiki.

The Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji arrived to meet him at the Ubuyashiki Mansion. They both shared a conversation moments after which Kagaya Ubuyashiki, his wife Amane, and their kids passed away. So, who was behind the death of the Demon Slayer Corps Leader? Was it the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji?

While Muzan Kibutsuji planned on killing Kagaya Ubuyashiki, it wasn't the Demon King that killed him. Kagaya Ubuyashiki sacrificed himself along with his family to ambush the Demon King and catch him off guard.

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 saw Muzan Kibutsuji reaching the Ubuyashiki Mansion and speaking to Kagaya Ubuyashiki. The Ubuyashiki family had been going after Muzan Kibutsuji for a long time, but none of Kagaya's predecessors had ever gotten so close to their target. Hence, Kagaya took the opportunity to speak to the Demon King.

Kagaya informed Muzan that they were both part of the same bloodline. However, given how Muzan was born too long ago, they could no longer be considered closely related. The reason the Ubuyashiki family was going after Muzan was because, as per a priest, Muzan's existence was what was causing his family members to become sick and pass away before they turned 30. Hence, they wanted to end Muzan to break the curse.

Muzan did not care about all such details and wished to kill Kagaya, but that's when he noticed Kagaya's daughters playing in the garden even though he was standing right there. This ominous feeling confused Muzan.

Right after, Kagaya infuriated Muzan by challenging his dream of eternity. As per Kagaya, eternity was a human thing as the Demon Slayer Corps was alive despite the deaths of countless corps members. As for the demons, all of them would perish if Muzan were to be killed.

Muzan could no longer control himself and wished to finish Kagaya Ubuyashiki. That's when the Demon Slayer Corps leader ambushed the Demon King. As per Kagaya, while his life was unimportant, it would not be for nothing. In fact, his death would fuel the Hashira's motivation to kill Muzan Kibutsuji even more. With that, Kagaya thanked Muzan for listening to him for that long.

Right after, as Muzan prepared to kill Kagaya and Amane, the entire Ubuyashiki Mansion exploded, killing Ubuyashiki, Amane, and their children. Hence, Kagaya Ubuyashiki sacrificed himself and his family so that Tamayo and the Hashira could fight a possibly weakened Muzan Kibutsuji.

All of this was planned as right after Muzan recovered from the tiny makibishi-filled explosion, Tamayo attacked him with flesh seeds and pierced her hand inside his gut, forcing Muzan to absorb a drug prepared to convert demons back into humans.

As Tamayo pinned down Muzan, the Rock Hashira Gyomei Himejima arrived at the location and beheaded Muzan to check whether that would be enough to kill him.

Unfortunately, as Kagaya had predicted, Muzan did not die upon being beheaded and needed to be brought under the sun to get killed. Hence, the Hashira were set for a long-driven battle, which was supposed to be drawn out to the sunrise.
