Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 was incredibly entertaining to watch since the focus was on Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira. He is one of the most underrated characters in the animanga series since he barely received any screen time. Furthermore, fans never really knew why Tomioka behaved the way he did with other Hashiras in the series.
But this particular episode cleared all that up, and it also added another layer to the character. Aside from Giyu Tomioka, there were plenty of other talking points. However, the main one among them all is the addition of anime-original scenes.
Naturally, Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 anime vs. manga comparison discussions are bound to take place. Ufotable has once again shown other studios how one can add anime-original scenes without disturbing the pace of the animanga series.
Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 features a substantial amount of anime-original content
The episode began with a shot of Yushiro cleaning the bookshelves in a house that is concealed from the rest of the world. This is where he and Lady Tamayo resided, so they could work towards finding a way to save humans from demons without being detected by Muzan or his lackeys. This short sequence wasn’t in the manga, but it was a good addition since it gave viewers some context. The manga directly cuts to Tomioka being disturbed by Tanjiro.
Instead, they chose to add Tamayo’s conversation first. Furthermore, Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 added an extra anime-original scene wherein Tanjiro has a conversation with Aoi. At first, she suspected that Tanjiro was in a hurry to resume training. However, he asked her if there was a way to tell someone that they weren’t alone without uttering those exact words. This entire sequence was not present in the manga. The source material showcases Tanjiro receiving Ubuyashiki’s letter, and it immediately cuts to Giyu being disturbed by the young demon hunter.
The anime also fleshed out scenes and added a few extra frames showing Tanjiro traversing through the estate and carrying Onigiri made by Aoi for him and Giyu Tomioka. The manga only dedicated a few panels to the interaction that took place between Giyu and Tanjiro. However, Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 extended that interaction by adding anime-original scenes that involved Tanjiro asking inane questions that annoyed Giyu.
These were some of the biggest changes that one could see in comparison to the manga. Furthermore, Demon Slayer season 4 episode 2 fleshed out Giyu’s backstory even more since Ufotable could show fans some of the fight scenes involving the Hand Demon and Sabito in the Final Selection. However, the anime continued to adapt the manga as it is when it came to Kanao Tsuyuri’s conversation with Shinobu Kocho. Another minor addition was Giyu Tomioka asking about Shinobu, and he wanted to know why she was the only Hashira that wasn’t training the demon hunters. This conversation with Tanjiro took place in the Soba Noodle shop, where they decided to challenge each other to a food competition.
