Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 has been released, and fans were thoroughly entertained with what was offered to them. The episode featured a ton of anime-original scenes, and how these scenes were added didn't have a negative impact on the overall viewing experience. Once again, Ufotable has shown us why it is one of the best animation studios in this medium.
Their consistency is remarkable, and their choice of adding newer scenes breathed some life into this story arc, which is otherwise considered rather boring and static. If we compare the episode to the source material, there was plenty of added material in the anime adaptation.
Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3: An entire episode dedicated to content worth 7 panels
Those who have read the manga chapters will know that the Hashira Training arc of the story is incredibly short. There are only 8 chapters, and Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 covered a portion of the contents from chapter 132. If we look at the source material, there are only 7 panels dedicated to the first stage of the training. These 7 panels only account for about 1.5 pages in the manga.
The manga showcased a short interaction between Tanjiro and Tengen Uzui, with the latter expressing his excitement over Tanjiro's recovery. Following this, the manga panel showed Tanjiro progressing to the next stage of the training. This particular panel marked the end of the contents covered in Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3.
However, the anime featured plenty of interactions between Tanjiro and the Sound Hashira's wives.
There were moments in Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3, that added depth to various characters. The anime-original scenes showed Uzui struggling with his retirement. He wanted to fight Muzan by his comrades' side, and being unable to return to the battlefield certainly made him sad.
Furthermore, a couple of unnamed demon hunters were clearly weaker and slower than Tanjiro. However, the protagonist manages to inspire his comrades by persevering in the training routine. They acknowledged the difference in the levels but promised to get stronger to support Tanjiro on the battlefield.
The biggest highlight was the fight sequence involving Tanjiro and Tengen Uzui. Once again, this, too, was an anime-original scene. Ufotable's animation was immaculate, and the fluid fight choreography gave fans plenty of reasons to be excited. Furthermore, they also foreshadowed the events that will take place in the Infinity Castle arc.
Native is the new Upper Moon 4 demon, and she sent her eye to spy and understand the whereabouts of the demon hunters. The mysterious aura created in the show was further amplified by showcasing a conversation that took place between Obanai Iguro and Sanemi Shinazugawa.
The Serpent Hashira showed signs of fear and uncertainty due to the massive reduction in attacks by demons. This meant that all demons were gearing up for an all-out war, which gave the Hashira enough reasons to worry. Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 was almost entirely made up of anime-original scenes, and it only adapted about one and a half pages from the source material.
