Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 was released on Sunday, and it gave the fans plenty of reasons to enjoy the contents of the episode. Once again, Ufotable has put on a masterclass of adding anime-original content without ruining the manga’s pacing, something that many studios often struggle with.
Tengen Uzui, the fan-favorite Hashira, returned to the screen again, this time accompanied by his three wives. Their interactions with Tanjiro were quite wholesome, and the animation was consistent once again.
The anime fleshed out the first stage of the training quite well and it gave fans some exciting action sequences to enjoy as well. The Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 review was extremely positive, and fans didn’t seem to have much to complain about.

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 review: Top-tier anime-original content and a scintillating fight sequence
As stated earlier, the episode had plenty of anime-original content that was used to flesh out the training session. Furthermore, the studio utilized new unnamed characters to highlight the effect that the training had on the demon hunters. Tengen Uzui was incredibly harsh with the routine, but Tanjiro Kamado managed to power through it with little to no difficulty.
One of the highlights of the episode was the fight between Tengen Uzui and the demon hunters. Tanjiro managed to go toe-to-toe with the former Sound Hashira, sparking a fire within the remaining demon hunters. The fight sequences were well-choreographed, and Uzui’s one-handed swordsmanship had a distinct flair, which Ufotable accentuated with their impeccable animation.
During the drill, the demon hunters realized that Tanjiro was a cut above the rest. They hoped to get stronger in the coming days to support Tanjiro in his fight against Kibutsuji Muzan.
Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 review: The episode added a layer of mystery despite lacking an antagonist
The Hashira Training arc doesn’t have any antagonists. The series relies a lot on the presence of demons to create an atmosphere filled with mystery and tension. With demons lurking around and killing humans, viewers are constantly worried about the possibility of demon hunters dying to said demons. Creating tension is one of the most crucial elements of scriptwriting. However, a series that relies on each story arc having prime antagonists would have found it difficult to create a sense of tension.
But, Ufotable teased the presence of a new Upper Moon 4 demon, which in this case seems to be Nakime. She is the demon who controls the Infinity Castle, home to a horde of demons. This is also the same place where Muzan conducts his meetings with the Upper and Lower Moon demons.
Showing Nakime’s eye infiltrating the Demon Slayer Corps’ headquarters was perfect since it injected plenty of tension when the series had slice-of-life type content in its episodes. This tension is further amplified when Sanemi Shinazugawa and Obanai Iguro had a conversation about how uneasy they felt.
Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 showed the two Hashiras worried about the lack of demonic activity. This meant that they were going to launch a full-fledged assault on the Demon Slayer Corps, hoping to get Nezuko Kamado.
Final Thoughts
Overall, the technical side of Demon Slayer season 4 episode 3 was perfect. The sound design was great, and the animation quality was above par. The anime-original fight sequence was done well, and Ufotable’s decision to add extra scenes to flesh out the first stage of the training routine was a good one. This also gave fans some idea about the remaining episodes. Based on this, we can expect an entire episode to be allocated to each stage of the training routine.
In the upcoming episode, fans should brace themselves for an exciting episode since the entire episode will most likely focus on the training stage that will be handled by Muichiro Tokito.
Stay tuned for more anime and manga news as 2024 progresses.
