The Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 review was exceptional to say the very least. There is absolutely no doubt that this was the best episode that this story arc has produced so far. Going into season 4, there was a lot of doubt and uncertainty among fans. The Swordsmith Village arc didn’t live up to the expectations.

However, Ufotable smashed it out of the park this season. The episode had all the necessary elements in a season finale - action, buildup, suspense, and top-tier animation. This episode is the perfect example of how a studio can create a transitionary point between two story arcs.

The transition was smooth, seamless, and it ended on a massive cliffhanger. The tension is palpable, and fans are anxiously waiting for the Infinity Castle arc, one of the most exciting sections of the overarching story.

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 review: Utilization of Muzan in the season finale

The way Ufotable utilized the prime antagonist of the series was a stroke of genius. The entire story arc had an atmosphere that was comparable to most slice-of-life anime shows. One could sense the lack of stakes in the show, which was one of the biggest worries among manga readers. However, the manner in which the animation studio brought Kibutsuji Muzan back into the anime series was perfect.

He was more menacing than he ever was, and he appeared straight into Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s mansion. The leader of the Demon Slayer Corps had a feeling that the Demon King would personally come over to kill the head of the clan. Naturally, this created plenty of tension and it reminded the fanbase of the stakes.

Furthermore, we got to see Muzan in action, despite its brief duration in Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8. The reaction that he received from the Hashira was enough to show that he was a threat to the very existence of humanity. Ufotable’s portrayal of Muzan was perfect in the season’s finale.

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 review: A glimpse of Karmic retribution

Fate is a concept that isn’t particularly foreign in shonen animanga titles. Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 also gave fans a glimpse of Muzan’s fate and showed how the most seemingly inconsequential actions have dire consequences. In the first season when Tanjiro Kamado encountered Muzan for the first time, there was a man who was turned into a demon. Muzan was identified by Tanjiro, and in order to divert the crowd’s attention, he turned a man into a demon.

That demon’s Blood Demon Art was utilized by Tamayo when she immobilized and weakened Muzan. The man in question was treated by Tamayo thanks to her efforts in creating the human reversal drug. Tamayo’s terrifying presence momentarily scared Muzan. This was an example of Karmic retribution at play, and it also gives fans a glimpse into Muzan’s future in the series.

Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 review: A seamless transition to Infinity Castle arc

With the sheer amount of anime-original scenes, Ufotable presented this season, fans were expecting nothing less in Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8. The episode had plenty of action and we got a glimpse of Gyomei Himejima’s Breathing Style. This was one of the biggest highlights of Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8. The particle effects of the fight involving Muzan and Gyomei were quite similar to the fight involving Gyutaro and Tengen Uzui, which received high praise from the entire anime community.

Furthermore, we saw all the demon hunters and Hashira alike, entering the Infinity Castle. This particular sequence also showed Zenitsu Agatsuma ready to take on a demon. However, this time it looked like Zenitsu was prepared for a fight while he was fully conscious. The anime-only fans are in for a treat since the Infinity Castle arc has one of Zenitsu’s best moments in the manga.

In conclusion, Demon Slayer season 4 episode 8 was the perfect end to the Hashira Training arc and Ufotable certainly redeemed itself with this season. For the studio, it was a gamble and it certainly paid off, as the anime-original scenes were the highlight of this season.

Stay tuned for more anime and manga news as 2024 progresses.
