In the latest Chainsaw Man manga chapter, fans shockingly saw protagonistic pair Asa Mitaka and Denji being sent to a new, strange world by the Aging Devil’s hand. Chapter 180 offered some context on the duo’s current situation. But it is clearly planning to explore this plot further in upcoming releases to slowly reveal this information.
However, the ever-eager Chainsaw Man fanbase has already begun theorizing what this world may be, or what in real-life could be influencing or inspiring its design. While information is minimal at this time, what mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto has told fans suggest the pair is now in the series’ version of the Garden of Eden.
Chainsaw Man offers an antithesis to hell in Asa and Denji’s latest situation
Based on what fans currently know, all evidences suggest that Denji and Asa are in what is essentially Chainsaw Man’s version of the Garden of Eden.
Firstly, it’s clear that people don’t age in the Aging Devil’s world. This is evidenced by the former Devil Hunter whom Asa spoke with in chapter 180. Despite having been trapped in the Aging Devil’s world for 82 years, he still looks much younger than he should be given this information.
The Garden of Eden also made Adam and Eve immortal per the Christian Bible, making them capable of living forever. Given that the adult Devil Hunter, whom Asa spoke with, should be well over 100 years old by now, it can be safely presumed those in this world are functionally immortal. This is further supported by the man’s claim that attempts to take his own life have always proved unsuccessful.
This commentary also combines with War Devil Yoru’s actions in chapter 180 to support the idea that it's the series’ version of the Garden of Eden. The Bible makes it clear that death and pain does not exist in the Garden of Eden. This is seemingly paralleled by the man’s words on being unable to die, and Yoru’s inability to use her powers to harm Denji.
Chainsaw Man chapter 180 also showed this Devil Hunter only wearing a loincloth. This is obviously reminiscent of the leaves Adam and Eve wore after eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Likewise, Denji and Asa being sent to this world as a pair suggests a Biblical connection and inspiration on Fujimoto’s part.
Obviously, one counter to this aspect is the fact that other humans specifically are in this world, with the Garden of Eden only having Adam and Eve within it in terms of humans. However, it’s likely that the significance of Denji and Asa arriving as a pair outweighs this as evidence either proving or disproving the aforementioned connection.
This is further supported by other minor discrepancies with the Garden of Eden’s portrayal in the Christian Bible. For example, the man in chapter 180 tells Asa he doesn’t get hungry or thirsty in the Aging Devil’s world. However, the Bible makes it clear that Adam and Eve did at least feel hunger by nature of being instructed to eat any fruit but that of the tree of knowledge. Likewise, it can be assumed they also got thirsty.
Final thoughts
Despite the arguments which can be made against this theory, the majority of evidence currently available to fans suggests that it is indeed the series’ own Garden of Eden. Fans can expect to learn more about the world as Denji and Asa try to escape it, especially after learning at least one person has done so before them.
