Denji and Pochita will always be an iconic 'inner demon' pair, and Yoru's betrayal of Asa in Chainsaw Man chapter 179 proves it

Chainsaw Man chapter 179, titled Vamvagah, was released on October 1, 2024. The chapter mainly focused on the inner conflict between Asa and Yoru, as both of them struggled to cooperate.

While Asa got a glimpse of Yoru's actual devilish nature, she tried to believe Yoru's words in Chainsaw Man chapter 179, and was betrayed once again. Asa and Yoru were essentially the protagonists of Part 2, with Asa replacing Denji and Yoru replacing Pochita.

The new duo continued to gain popularity throughout Part 2, but the recent chapters have simply shown how Denji and Pochita will always be the better example of the "inner demon" trope due to how good and complementary their pairing is.

Chainsaw Man chapter 179: Denji and Pochita's pairing was a miracle

Chapter 178 of the manga was the first time Asa got a glimpse into Yoru's true nature as a devil, which brought her back to the harsh reality that devils are ruthless and have no concern for the innocent human lives around them. In Chainsaw Man chapter 179, Asa attempts to convince Yoru to spare the now severely injured Pochita.

However, when she fails to do so, Asa somehow regains control of her body. Yet, Yoru once again manages to manipulate Asa's trusting nature, regaining control and shooting both Denji and Pochita. This sequence highlights the ruthless and cunning nature of devils that Asa has witnessed in the chapters prior to Chainsaw Man chapter 179.

Given their role as a new iteration of the Denji and Pochita pairing, it emphasizes how grim Denji's fate might have been had he met any other devil instead of Pochita, who is likely the only devil not to exhibit the usual opportunistic traits.

Pochita has gone on to eliminate devils linked to Denji's trauma while refusing to sacrifice children to regain strength, further solidifying Pochita's unique nature. Although Denji generally understands situations, his actions remain unpredictable, and he is still one of the easiest humans to manipulate.

With most devils being opportunistic and narcissistic, the pairing of Denji and Pochita as one of the strongest forces in the story highlights how Pochita stands as a near angelic figure compared to other devils. The events of Chainsaw Man chapter 179 reaffirm Denji and Pochita as the iconic and superior representation of the "inner demon" trope compared to Asa and Yoru.

Final thoughts

Chainsaw Man chapter 180 will be released on October 15, 2024, and will focus on the Aging Devil taking up a much more active role in the ongoing fight and facing both Pochita and Yoru.

This will be the second instance of a primal devil actually facing off against both Pochita and one of the Four Horsemen devil, and it is possible that this fight once again unfolds like the fight against the Darkness Devil.
