My Hero Academia's latest episode featured a shocking moment as Katuski Bakugo succumbed to Tomura Shigaraki's might. The villain's assault was too much for the brave young Hero, as his injuries were grave enough to lose his grip on life. The episode concluded with Best Jeanist standing helpless over a lifeless Bakugo.
As heart-wrenching as it was for the entire fandom, times of darkness call for light, and behold, Jujutsu Kaisen swooped in to the rescue. An X user, @glennster2363, added JJK's opening theme, SPECIALZ, to the scene of Bakugo's death and got a lot of giggles from fans of Kohei Horikoshi's series.
My Hero Academia's Bakugo falls prey to Jujutsu Kaisen's 'SPECIALZ' trend
Jujutsu Kaisen's opening theme, SPECIALZ, has been composed by the Japanese band King Gnu. It gained huge popularity due to its catchy beat, crisp instrumentals, and attractive lyrics, specifically "You are my special." The theme was one of the highlights of the anime's second season.
Thanks to NASA, in a way, the song also became a popular internet meme. This happened after NASA posted a satellite image of Tokyo resembling a crater formed in Gege Akutami's series after the Shibuya Incident. Fans of the anime wasted no time in spamming the post with the caption, "You are my special."
Since then, the song has been added as a background score to distressing moments to elevate the scene's appeal. Moreover, it seems to fit wherever it is added. Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, episode 7, is a great example since the theme plays as Yuji witnesses the destruction Ryomen Sukuna caused while in control.
Continuing the trend, X user @glennster2363 added SPECIALZ to Bakugo's death scene.
My Hero Academia fans crack up over Bakugo's death joining the 'SPECIALZ' trend
Bakugo's death was truly an agonizing moment, considering the mismatch in strength between him and Shigaraki. But even so, the young Hero's drive to complete the job given to him was too strong to allow him to back down.
After all, he wished to catch up to Izuku Midoriya and at least hold off Shigaraki till he arrived. While tears were likely shed over such a moment, it is safe to say that the 'SPECIALZ' trend alleviated some of the pain of My Hero Academia's fandom.
Fans of Horikoshi's series couldn't help but giggle at the fact that this trend has reached even My Hero Academia. As seen with the comment and attached gif, fans appreciated the quickness of thought to merge the two to create something truly "Diabolical."
A part of the My Hero Academia fandom was surprised at how well the theme fit into the moment. In normal circumstances, a move like this would work to possibly ruin such a serious scene. But in this case, the theme fits the whole mood and setting quite well.
"Why does it kinda fit...." a user posted.
Once fans grasped the idea, laughs echoed loud and clear. Bakugo's death was meant to be a gut punch to the Heroes and the viewers. Coupled with the weight of the moment, this theme seemingly boosted its impact altogether.
"hold up this is perfect lmaoo" a netizen commented.
Another part of the fandom did not know how to react or what to do with themselves. Understandably, a scene meant to hit hard suddenly upgraded in the right direction with the 'SPECIALZ' addition. They took to social media to express this mixture of emotions, unaware of whether to cry or laugh.
"I CAN'T DO IT TODAY OH GOD...I SHRIEKED I DOM'T KNOW WHETHER TO LAUGH OR CRY ANYMORE..." a fan cried out.
"That is not ok....i approve 100 percent lol" an X user posted.
Finally, it can be stated that My Hero Academia fans approve of the trend reaching Bakugo. This is one of those popular trends that brings an element of comedy without harming the original material. In this case, the theme did not diminish the effect of Bakugo's death but rather enhanced it.
