Tower of God season 2 being one of the most disappointing animes that dropped this year is almost general consensus. Tower of God fans that stuck through the mediocrity that was season 1, have filled the internet with complaints of how the series has doubled down on everything that made it unexceptional in the prior season.
Even fans who followed the series right from when it was a manhwa have spoken about how the source material has been wasted.
Tower of God's plot has drawn similarities to One Piece and Hunter X Hunter. It has also been praised for its exceptional world-building, remarkable fights, and amazing action sequences.
Season 2 was billed to be the best season by those who have followed the webtoon, but by its finale, it was far from that. Due to this, many fans have lost interest in the anime, and many have returned to the manhwa.
Here is why Tower of God season 2 fell off in popularity.

What was the problem with Tower of God season 2?
The first problem that Tower of God season 2 faced was hype. Before season 2 dropped, rumors circulated about how this season would be legendary, and this built up anticipation. Most of this hype came from manhwa fans who expected better in Tower of God season 2. However, when the episodes dropped, all the excitement quickly died down.
Tower of God also faced a steep decline in animation and art quality. While the change in art can be chalked up to the studio trying to replicate what SIU did in the manhwa— where he changed the art overnight— this change was jarring to those who watched season 1. The animation was also reported by fans to be stiff, and this impacted the action sequences that were a hallmark of this anime.
Tower of God season 2's animation kept getting worse as the episodes progressed, with episode 8 being one of the worst in the entire series. In the final episodes of season 2, the animation got a little bit better as compared to the beginning. The editing also fell off like the animation, and fans were treated to jarring cuts that ruined the viewing experience.
The story wasn’t spared from the onslaught of terrible decisions made by the creators of the anime as it was rushed. This made the characters pretty forgettable and the introduction of new characters annoying. The story doesn’t slow down for the workshop arc, for which it was crucial.
Can the anime bounce back from Tower of God season 2?
Whether Tower of God fixes all the problems season 2 encountered or keeps releasing subpar seasons regardless of poor audience and critical reviews remains unclear.
Kingdom, an anime that was adapted from the manga of the same name, also had a terrible beginning with bad animation, but that was later improved in subsequent seasons.
For Tower of God’s popularity to return, the anime must slow down its pacing. They should take a page from Attack on Titan and release two parts of one season, thus ensuring focus on every character.
Another aspect that needs improvement is their fight sequences. For season 3 to happen, the animator must deliver crisp fighting sequences that will drive viewers back. If these things are improved, Tower of God’s popularity will eventually return.
Final thoughts
The source of the material of Tower of God season 2 will ensure it won't fail. Even with the poor animation and poorly paced story, viewers still rush to see it, but how long they cope with mediocrity remains to be seen.
This is not the first time lovers of a certain anime have withdrawn all their love for it. Seven Deadly Sins suffered from poor reviews in its latter seasons, and ended with fans complaining about its poor animation.
The series has everything in it to be a modern-day classic. Apart from it being one of the first manhwa to be adapted into anime, it also has a dedicated fanbase and an author who is keen on producing excellent work. If the creators take their time to do the work, the story is bound to be great.
