As the battle started, Veltol discovered that Meldia incarnated into the world because she was guilty of granting Hero Gram the Eternal Youth. According to Demon Lord 2099 finale, Meldia romantically loved Gram, so she wanted to apologize to Gram for the misery caused by her "boon." She also hoped Gram would forgive her.

Exploring how Veltol saved Hizuki from Meldia's possession in Demon Lord 2099 finale's ending

Picking up the events from the previous installment, the Demon Lord 2099 finale commenced with the battle between Veltol and Goddess Meldia. In the previous episode, it was revealed that when Meldia performed the Fantasia, she downgraded her soul and transported herself into a baby, who was Hizuki.

Under normal circumstances, Meldia would have ceased to exist. That's why the Goddess was incarnated into Hizuki's body when Mag performed a ritual. As the episode began, the Goddess was seen as hostile toward Veltol. The Demon Lord had no other choice but to engage in combat against Meldia to save Hizuki, whose body the Goddess possessed.

At the heart of Akihabara, Demon Lord Veltol clashed his sword against Meldia's in the Demon Lord 2099 finale. Even though Veltol demonstrated a wide range of abilities, he realized none of his attacks were quite working on Meldia. On the contrary, the Goddess' moves kept killing him. The Demon Lord's Immortality saved him from those hits.

However, Meldia possessed a weapon that could negate Veltol's Immortality and penetrate his soul. Eventually, Veltol figured out the true nature of Meldia's Divine Manipulation power. According to Demon Lord 2099 finale, Meldia could manipulate fate. Her Divinity granted her a passive skill to nullify physical damage as well as an active skill to evade magical (aether-based) attacks.

Yet, during their fight, Veltol was able to land a hit on Meldia. Thus, he realized he could defeat the Goddess if he hit her before she could even evade. However, it wasn't that easy. Although Meldia's soul possessed only a fragment of her original strength, it was still formidable for Veltol to handle alone.

Moreover, the Demon Lord had to deal with Meldia's psyche. According to Demon Lord 2099 finale, Meldia incarnated to the world because she was guilty of dooming Gram the Hero with Eternal Youth. She didn't know her boon would make the hero she romantically loved suffer. That's why Meldia constantly apologized to Gram in her subconscious mind.

As Meldia's feelings loosened her grip over Hizuki's body, the girl pleaded with Veltol to save her. The Demon Lord knew exactly what to do. However, he wasn't prepared for Meldia's second form, which turned her into a menacing opponent. Meldia's second form endowed her with astonishing powers capable of destroying the Akihabara city.

Goddess Meldia demonstrated a powerful attack on Veltol to push him afar. At that moment, Gram the Hero appears in the scene. When Veltol asked him for his help, Gram accepted it without hesitation. Demon Lord 2099 finale saw Veltol and Gram's teamwork, as the hero helped his former enemy save Akihabara and possibly Meldia's soul from spiraling into darkness.

During the battle, Meldia glanced at Gram's figure, which momentarily froze her movements. She was overcome with emotions of love that she couldn't do anything. Demon Lord Veltol then charged at Meldia with his sword, Vernal Diel. Demon Lord 2099 finale saw Veltol pierce Goddess Meldia's soul to free Hizuki from her possession.

Veltol used Meldia's defense against her and pierced the sword through her soul before she could activate her evasive abilities. According to the Demon Lord 2099 finale, Veltol didn't harm Hizuki's body or soul. Rather, he only slashed Meldia's soul. That's how the blade didn't leave Hizuki with any wound.

Meldia's existence was weakened due to unrepairable damage to her soul, so she apologized to Gram. While the hero wasn't at the scene, Veltol knew how he would have responded. He assured her the man she adored couldn't possibly hate her because he was a hero.

Realizing the fact that Gram wasn't in misery anymore, Meldia was freed from her guilt. She thanked Veltol and apologized to Hizuki before disappearing from the world. As Meldia's soul disappeared from Hizuki's body, the latter regained consciousness. Since then, Hizuki no longer heard the whispers of apology but gratitude from a voice in her mind. Although Meldia was gone, her voice lingered on Hizuki's head.

Conclusion

Demon Lord 2099 finale witnessed the tragic tale of Meldia, who used to believe that she plunged her lover into misery. However, Veltol's kind blade removed her guilt and showed her the truth. This way, Veltol was able to save Hizuki, whose body Meldia had possessed.
