Demon Slayer: Does Giyu Tomioka have feelings for Shinobu Kocho?
Demon Slayer is a series set in a world where death is constant. Therefore, it doesn’t particularly explore any romantic relationships in the series. That being said, the manga has confirmed the prevalence of a few romantic relationships. This could be seen in the last chapter, which focused on the descendants of the current generation of demon hunters.
The chapter confirmed that Tanjiro Kamado was romantically involved with Kanao Tsuyuri, Zenitsu Agatsuma with Nezuko Kamado, and it also showed Obanai Iguro with Mitsuri Kanroji. However, the Snake Hashira and Love Hashira died during the fight against Muzan, which is why they do not have any descendants.
With that established, it is important to note that the manga did not confirm that Giyu Tomioka has a romantic interest. Canonically, Giyu does not have feelings for Shinobu Kocho. This is because the Demon Slayer manga did not explicitly mention Giyu being romantically involved with her. However, there is a reason for the fanbase shipping the two characters.
Usually, fans ship characters based on their interactions. At first, we could see that Shinobu found ways to annoy Giyu but it seemed like it was done endearingly. Furthermore, Shinobu’s death elicited an extreme reaction from the Water Hashira.
However, these two points cannot justify the two being romantically involved in the series. Also, Giyu Tomioka had a descendant in the very last chapter of the series, but the child bore no resemblance to the Insect Hashira.
This trend holds true for Sanemi Shinazugawa as well. He too had a descendant, but the child only shared a resemblance with the Wind Hashira. In other cases, the children shared features with both partners.
With these points in mind, it is important to note that the manga did not explicitly mention the prevalence of a romantic relationship involving the Water and the Insect Hashira. Therefore, it’s safe to say that Giyu Tomioka didn’t have feelings for Shinobu Kocho and that their relationship appeared to be strictly professional.
