Chainsaw Man's Kobeni Higashiyama might just be the most normal of the series' host of characters. Introduced as Public Safety Devil Hunter working under Makima's Special Squad, the girl soon quit her role due to a horrifying run-in with the Darkness Devil.
Later, she spent her days working in a restaurant before she was once more thrust into the world of Devils. Unlike other Devil Hunters, it is yet unknown which Devil is exactly contracted with. But again, she is still the most ordinary of the lot. This bit has led fans to wonder who her love interest might be, or if she even has one.
The simple answer is that Kobeni Higashiyama has no love interest in Chainsaw Man and is just trying to lead a normal, peaceful life.
Chainsaw Man: Kobeni Higashiyama has no love interest
Kobeni Higashiyama
Kobeni has no love interest in the Chainsaw Man series and is single, like most characters. As far as the manga has progressed, there has been no concrete indication that she is interested in anyone or has a secret affair. From whatever has been shown of her, Kobeni has just wanted to be far from Devil Hunting.
Kobeni chose to become a Devil Hunter partly due to pressure from her parents to work to in turn support her brother going to college. She was given a choice of becoming either a Devil Hunter or an escort, the former being what she opted for, thus joining Public Safety despite wanting to go to college too.
Kobeni remains shrouded in mystery
A lot about Kobeni is yet a mystery. Despite being a supporting character, very specific facts are known about her. She is quite timid, with few moments of bravery. She can't handle pressure and breaks down easily, as seen in the Eternity Devil Arc.
She is seemingly uncomfortable with public displays of affection, as seen when Himeno repeatedly hugs her and enjoys alcohol, especially if someone else pays. Her hobby is to eat delicious things and she loves the flavor of ice cream which she has only experienced thrice in her life.
Moreover, it is yet unknown which Devil Kobeni is contracted with. Speculation suggests that she might be contracted with one of the following Devils: Black Cat Devil, Famine Devil, Misfortune Devil and Death Devil.
The theme of Romance in Chainsaw Man
Tatsuki Fujimoto's series does not focus heavily on the theme of Romance. It mostly focuses on Power, taking forms such as political, financial, supernatural powers, etc. Its genre is Action with Dark Fantasy. But Fujimoto does tease fans with a sort of twisted romance for its protagonist, Denji.
Denji has such run-ins with 2 female characters, i.e., Makima and Reze. Makima used her physical appeal to manipulate Denji, aware of the effect she had on him. Reze might have fallen for Denji but she had come to Japan to kill him. When she decides to run away with him instead, she faces Makima who ends up killing her.
Presently, Asa Mitaka offers the only chance at real romance to Denji. His mixed experiences with the opposite gender have left his view of dating a little distorted. However, Asa's introduction into his life might be what he needs. Moreover, Asa looks to be the deuteragonist of Part 2, which hints at a potential connection between the pair.
