Jujutsu Kaisen introduced numerous cursed techniques, each with its own specific set of rules. While most of them persisted until the end of the series, the Ten Shadows Technique, inherited by Megumi and used by Sukuna in his fight against Gojo, remains a mystery even after the series' conclusion. The Ten Shadows Technique was extensively explored in the series, with many of its rules such as the fate of shikigami that are destroyed, being clarified.
However, Mahoraga's unique status among the shikigami raises numerous questions, particularly after the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight, which ended with Mahoraga's destruction and Gojo's death. The story concluded without confirmation of Mahoraga's status, leaving the fandom to accept that Mahoraga is gone based on the established rules of the technique.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Mahoraga's status after Gojo vs Sukuna
Mahoraga was first indirectly mentioned in the earliest chapters of Jujutsu Kaisen through Gojo's cryptic dialogue about the Ten Shadows Technique potentially rivaling the Gojo Clan's Infinity. While later episodes revealed Megumi's intention to summon Mahoraga, its actual appearance occurred during the Shibuya Incident arc in Megumi's encounter with Haruta.
Like other Ten Shadows shikigami, Mahoraga is summoned through a ritual in which the sorcerer must defeat it alone to subjugate it. Once defeated in the ritual, Mahoraga joins the usual roster of the Ten Shadows Technique under the user’s control. An additional condition is that if a third party interferes and destroys Mahoraga, it can later be summoned in a new ritual, voiding the previous one.
The Ten Shadows Technique rules state that any shikigami destroyed is gone permanently, with its abilities inherited by the remaining shikigami via "Totality." Although Mahoraga falls under these rules, it holds a somewhat unique role as the sole entity that enhances the power of the Ten Shadows Technique.
Mahoraga's last appearance was in the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight, where it created the essential blueprint for the World Cutting Slash, which led to Gojo's defeat shortly after he destroyed Mahoraga.
While it’s widely accepted that Mahoraga, along with Mourning Tiger, Nue, Round Deer, and the Great Serpent, is now permanently gone from the Ten Shadows Technique, its anomalous status leaves a slight possibility that it could still be summoned without Megumi's knowledge.
Megumi currently only has access to Divine Dog and a few other shikigami that were not defeated in the Gojo vs. Sukuna fight. However, the Ten Shadows Technique has lost much of its allure due to Mahoraga's absence. Despite the established rules, Mahoraga’s unique status leaves open a slight possibility of its return.
Final Thoughts
The Jujutsu Kaisen manga concluded in September 2024 with the release of chapter 271. The anime currently has two seasons released, with Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 scheduled for release sometime in 2025. While the actual fate of most of Megumi's shikigami was left unexplored, it is possible that Gege Akutami may choose to add new information regarding these techniques in the anime, similar to how Tite Kubo has been adding new canon information in the anime adaptation of the Bleach TYBW arc.
