Exploring Sion Ulster's relationship with Will Serfort in Wistoria: Wand and Sword
While Sion Ulster doesn't harbor any romantic feelings for Will Serfort, his dynamics with the boy make a fascinating story in Wistoria: Wand and Sword. Fortunately, the original author, Fujino Omori and the anime's production team added narratives from the prequel light novel in the latest episode to illustrate the duo's relationship better.
Embedded with complexity, Sion and Will's relationship goes beyond the concept of love and hate. Rather, the latest episode of Wistoria: Wand and Sword, titled Between Pride and Passion, reveals through a flashback that Sion disliked how miserable Will appeared to others because of his lack of magic.

Whether it was due to his arrogance or pity, Sion was the first person who offered Will his hand; he wanted to make him one of his underlings so others wouldn't look down upon the boy. The mage had the right intentions, but his boyish mind couldn't probe into Will's wounded heart.
Sion began to realize that Will Serfort never bothered to look into the eyes of those who call him inferior. He was always chasing after his goals, even though he knew that the odds were against him. Somehow, Will's steadfast resolve sowed the seeds of hatred in Sion's heart.

The boy couldn't comprehend how Will's entire attention could be fixated on Elfaria, so much so that others were obliviated from his senses. With hatred in his heart, Sion tormented Will for years. However, deep down, he recognized Will for his resolve, yet he wanted some attention that the boy never gave to him.
Psychologically, Sion Ulster's feelings weren't love but the want to be acknowledged. His pride and ego was hurt by Will's actions, which was why he acted coldly toward Will. His heinous actions kept escalating, but he could never diminish the magicless boy's resolve.

Fast forward to the Dungeon incident, when Will Serfort saved Sion Ulster from an evil sentinel, Ulster couldn't digest it, but Will's actions tickled Sion's ego but earned his admiration at the same time. Yet, being a "tsundere" character, Sion couldn't put his actual feelings into words that time.
Rather, he channeled his angst, admiration and all types of feelings into strengthening himself as a mage. That's how he surpassed his limits and shocked everyone at the Grand Magic Festival in Wistoria: Wand and Sword.

Yet, most importantly, Sion Ulster wanted Will Serfort's recognition. He wanted the boy to look him in the eye and not to ignore him anymore. Sion was furious that he couldn't be one of the "priorities" of Will Serfort. While these feelings could be interpreted as love in its basic form, Sion's feelings weren't strictly romantic.
Wistoria: Wand and Sword episode 6 also constructed the relationship dynamics from Will Serfort's perspective. The same flashback from Will's perspective revealed that the boy wanted to be recognized as well. However, he was too overwhelmed to notice others' actual feelings for him.
As Will understood Sion's wish to be acknowledged, he decided to look him in the eye and battle him seriously. Sion's desire to battle Will was to ensure the boy had some time for him aside from his priorities.
Yet, the duel was eventually stopped by Colette. However, the incident made Will realize Sion's perspective, and ensured he found a rival. One could say, Sion and Will have a relationship similar to Bakugo and Deku's from My Hero Academia. Undoubtedly, Fujino Omori's brilliance as an author reflects through Sion and Will's dynamics in Wistoria: Wand and Sword.
