Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 has just been released, and the legendary franchise by author Akira Toriyama returns with a new story that expands the lore of the Demon Realm and has also been praised for its outstanding animation. This project takes place after the events of the Buu Saga and establishes that there is a new leader in the Demon Real, Gomah, who wants to remove Goku and his friends as he sees them as a potential threat.
The first half of Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 mostly served as a reminder of the events that took place in the Buu Saga and also as fanservice since some iconic moments were adapted with top-notch animation. Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 expands the Demon Realm and introduces new villains
After a brief recap of the series, Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 properly begins in the Demon Realm as Gomah and Degesu, the brother of the Supreme Kai, are watching a recording of the events of the Buu Saga. Long-term fans of the series are probably going to rejoice by having to relive the most popular moments of that arc with top-notch animation.
Moreover, it is through this recording that it is revealed that Degesu holds a grudge against his brother and that Gomah has become the ruler of the Demon Realm after Dabura's death. These two characters decide to use the Earth Dragon Ball to get their wishes since the ones in their world are guarded by beings known as Tamagami, although Arinsu, Degesu's sister, arrives and warns them of Goku's potential as a threat.
This is how Gomah decides to turn Goku and his friends into kids since the Dragon Balls can't grant wishes such as taking their lives. It is in this period of Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 that several tidbits of lore are added, such as having a Namekian named Neva in the Demon Realm, who is the one who created the Dragon Balls in that reality, and establishing that demons are those with pointy ears.
Degesu and Gomah begin their schemes
The second part of Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 focused less on recaps of the previous storylines and more on Degesu and Gomah's journey to Earth, even going as far as showing the logistics to leave the Demon Realm. It was also stated here that Dr. Arinsu traveled to Earth, although her reasons were not shown and could be a major plot point in the coming episodes.
The main cast is shown celebrating Trunks' ninth birthday, although Goku states that Gohan isn't around because he is studying. The protagonist and Vegeta then have a sparring match after eating, which is a moment of fanservice for audiences as they display some of their signature moves.
On the other hand, Degesu and Gomah arrive at the lookout and push Dende and Mr. Popo aside so Neva can summon the Earth Dragon Balls and use them. This is how they wish for Goku and his friends to be turned into kids, with Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 ending with the cliffhanger of their transformation.
Final thoughts
For the most part, Dragon Ball Daima episode 1 served as a recap of the events of the Buu Saga for newcomers and also established the new threat that are Degesu and Gomah, plus expanding the lore of the Demon Realm. It is very likely that the next episode is going to properly start the plot.
