Reviewing Dragon Ball Daima episode 5: Evaluating the latest episode of this legendary franchise
Dragon Ball Daima episode 5: A brief synopsis
In Dragon Ball Daima episode 5, Goku, Glorio, and Shin met a mysterious girl named Panzy, who thanked them for saving her from Gomah’s men. After she insisted on joining, they accepted her into their group to reach Kaldan Castle, as she knew a shortcut.
During the journey, Panzy told Goku that every Majin had access to at least one kind of magic—hers being the ability to make things levitate—and that Majins could live up to one thousand years. Upon reaching the castle, they discovered Panzy was a princess. Meanwhile, in Gomah’s castle, it was revealed that baby Dende was being cared for, with the evil overlord planning to use him to create new Dragon Balls.
As the king of Kaldan Castle, Panzy's father, discovered that Goku was the one who defeated Majin Buu, Shin noticed some discrepancies between what Glorio told them and what this man knew of their quest. Goku defeated the man's soldiers in an exhibition fight to prove his mettle as a warrior and the party was rewarded with a ship and Panzy decided to join them, although the episode ended with them crashing because they were carrying a lot of things.
Narrative review of Dragon Ball Daima episode 5: Suspense, more lore, and a nice narrative flow
Dragon Ball Daima episode 5 made a strong case as the best in the series so far, with solid direction, a well-flowing narrative, and plot progression that felt coherent. The additions of Panzy and her father were well-received, capturing the nostalgic feel of the story's early days, which appeared to be a central focus of the project.
The series continued to build more lore into the Dragon Ball universe while shifting away from a strong emphasis on fighting—a rarity for the franchise. While Goku had moments to showcase his strength, such as in the exhibition battle in this episode, these moments served as a complement rather than the main focus.
This episode was also pivotal in moving the plot forward since they reached Panzy's father, Shin now has a clearer view of Glorio's secrets, and the overarching feeling is that now the main focus of the plot is starting.
Dragon Ball Daima episode 5: Reviewing the production, animation, soundtracks, and voice acting
The voice cast, as mentioned in previous reviews, remains quite solid, and they continue to be a good representation of each character's personality and the way they go about things. Special mention to Panzy's voice actress, Fairouz Ai, most commonly known for voicing Jolyne Cujoh in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Power in Chainsaw Man, who does a great job here injecting life and personality to the character.
In terms of the animation, it continues to be one of the best-sselling points of the series as it flows quite well, there aren't any meaningful decays in quality, and the choreography in the battle sequences continues to be excellent. This was evidenced by Goku's display against the soldiers and his Super Saiyan transformation.
Dragon Ball Daima episode 5 continues to have a solid soundtrack that fits with the story of author Akira Toriyama. Moments such as the exploration with Panzy or Goku's fight were some standout sections in terms of the soundtrack.
Final thoughts
Dragon Ball Daima episode 5 was a strong moment for the series thus far, with the developments of the mysterious girl who turned out to be Panzy and the party now having a clear path to take. It also maintains the degree of quality that this project has maintained since the first episode.
