Dragon Ball fans have gathered to celebrate a recent post uploaded by the franchise's official English X account, featuring Gohan and his family. This artwork was done by the mangaka of the Super manga, Toyotaro, and shows Goku's son spending time with his wife Videl, and their daughter, Pan.

The artwork has won over the fandom along with some discussions about Gohan's characterization throughout the years in Dragon Ball. Fans discussed what Gohan's character should be, which has been a topic of debate for decades. However, there is a consensus that fans are happy about him having a family and spending time with them.

Dragon Ball fans praise the recent illustration of Gohan with his family

The official English X account of the franchise published an illustration by Toyotaro featuring Gohan, his wife Videl, and their child Pan spending time together as a family. The illustration won over people online.

They also appreciated the detail showing Gohan's parents. The water beneath the family shows a reflection of Gohan's parents, Goku and Chi-Chi, spending time with him when he was a kid. This was seemingly a call back to the early days of the Z portion of the series.

The illustration also connects to the Super Hero arc from both the manga and the 2022 movie, which showed Gohan struggling to balance his work with his family life. In many ways, this art piece could be considered the conclusion of that arc, with the young half-Saiyan spending time with his wife and daughter.

The reflection with his parents works as a metaphor for how far Gohan's character has gone throughout the years. No other character defines the passage of time in the franchise better than Gohan. He started as a four-year-old boy and has now been portrayed as a scholar and a family man, with the audience seeing him grow throughout the years.

Gohan's personal life and the path he has taken have always been points of contention for a lot of Dragon Ball fans. There is a good percentage of the fandom who think that he has wasted his potential as a fighter by not training as regularly as Vegeta and Piccolo. This was to the point that he is often perceived as a character who never lived up to the expectations.

That is why this illustration saw people claim that Gohan fans are "angry" to see him have a happy life with Videl and Pan. While is true that perhaps he should not slack with his training, it makes sense that he wouldn't like to fight after spending most of his childhood dealing with galaxy-level threats such as Vegeta, Nappa, Frieza, and Cell.

"A happy Son Family indeed," someone said.

"That is a wholesome family right there," another person said.

"Man, Goku, Chichi and kid Gohan in the water's reflection is neat," someone else said.

Regardless of opinions, Gohan is one of the few Dragon Ball characters who people have seen grow up from the moment he was born. That makes illustrations of this ilk a lot more compelling to fans and gives them a lot more meaning.
