Similar to how most Shonen anime have a power system, Breathing styles is the main power system of Demon Slayer. This is exactly what makes them stand apart from other humans. They use these techniques to enhance their swordsmanship and fight against demons.
As seen in the anime, different characters make use of different types of breathing styles. While most of them have been used for centuries, some of them were uniquely created by some select members of the corps. Thus, here we will be taking a look at the demon slayers who created their own breathing techniques and how they came across them.

Which Demon Slayers developed their own breathing technique?
1) Shinobu Kocho
While Shinobu Kocho had originally trained in the Flower Breathing style, the breathing technique wasn't suitable for her due to her short stature. She soon realized that she could not behead demons, and thus she developed the Insect Breathing Style.
The Insect Breathing style made use of her extensive knowledge in chemistry to utilize poison in her breathing style, often carrying the same in her scabbard. As for her fighting style, she chose to get her Nichirin sword to be made pointy and thin, which would help her stab and poison her enemies.
2) Tengen Uzui
Before his career in the Demon Slayer Corps, Tengen Uzui was a shinobi who was trained in stealthy combat. However, he had to get away from his village with his three wives after his siblings passed away due to his father's harsh training sessions. Soon after, he was recruited by Kagaya Ubayashiki to be part of the Corps.
Following that, Tengen had to master a breathing style. While he had already mastered stealthy combat techniques, he preferred to be flashy and hence he created the Sound Breathing technique, which made use of two cleaver-like swords chained together and bombs.
3) Mitsuri Kanroji
While Mitsuri Kanroji had previously trained in the Flame Breathing style by Kyojuro Rengoku, the fighting style did not optimize her strength and agility. Following that, she created her own breathing style, the Love Breathing style, which was inspired by the Flame Breathing style.
Mitsuri Kanroji's Love Breathing style made use of her strength and agility to get past enemies' blind spots and attack them with a considerably good range due to her unique Nichirin sword. Unlike other demon slayers, Mitsuri uses a whip-like sword that has a wide range.
4) Obanai Iguro
While Obanai Iguro is yet to showcase his breathing style in the anime, fans will be fascinated to learn that he too had created his own fighting style. He was raised within a cult that worshipped a snake demon, within which people used to mock his appearance. In addition, he was blind in one eye.
Thus, he had to develop his own breathing style, the Serpent Breathing style, that mimicked the moments of a snake. He did this by making use of his small stature and slipping through thin gaps, all while using his uniquely created Nichirin sword that is curved in shape, making use of moments that resemble that of a snake.
5) Inosuke Hashibira
Unlike other demon slayers who created their breathing style after they joined the corps, Inosuke Hashibira created his Beast Breathing style before he even got to learn about civilization, demons, and the corps. This was because he was raised by wild boars in the forest and happened to defeat a passing demon slayer.
Upon obtaining Nichirin swords, Inosuke took an interest in the same and created his breathing style based on animal instincts and customized his swords by chipping them, making them look like a wild animal's jaws. He used two swords and made use of his agility and abilities to attack and locate his enemies.
