Every mistake in One Piece chapter 1127 that indicates something fishy is going on

One Piece chapter 1127 marks the official beginning of the long-awaited Elbaf Arc. Titled Adventure in the Land of Mystery, the latest installment of Eiichiro Oda’s addictive manga sees Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji finally getting a glimpse of Elbaf. On their way to the fabled homeland of the Giants, Luffy and the others were separated from the rest of the crew.

After waking up dressed in a Viking-like outfit, Nami reunited with Usopp inside a huge edifice made of LEGO-like bricks. Attacked by a giant cat that soon transformed into a lion, Nami and Usopp were saved by Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji, who defeated the monster. What has caught the attention of many fans is that there seem to be several mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127. In fact, this could be a hint for more intriguing developments.

Drawing errors are not unprecedented in the One Piece manga, and usually get fixed in the volume releases. However, the sheer amount of mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127 should have been enough for editors or assistants to notice them. From objects appearing and disappearing randomly to unusual demanors from certain characters, the inconsistencies are both numerous and evident, perhaps too much to be mere oversights on Oda’s part.

The many mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127 may hint at the Elbaf Arc’s upcoming developments

1) Nami’s tattoo and bracelet are missing

On her left wrist, Nami wears a bracelet given to her by her adoptive sister Nojiko. In the same place, she also wears a Log Pose, which is pivotal for her duties as the Straw Hat crew’s navigator. Another distinguishing feature of Nami is the tattoo on her left shoulder. After the events of the Arlong Park Arc, it depicts tangerines and pinwheels.

One of the most evident mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127 is the absolute lack of those features, which is truly surprising given that they are some of Nami’s most prized possessions.

2) Other minor inconsistencies with Nami’s design

In the previous chapter, Nami suddenly wakes up dressed as a Viking, much like the typical natives of Elbaf. She is shown with a tie around her right arm, but in the very next panel the tie is on her left arm. It continues to be on her left arm in One Piece chapter 1127 as well.

Nami’s Elbaf outfit also includes a huge longsword strapped to her back. The strange thing is that the sword literally appears and disappears randomly. It is clearly visible in certain panels, but in others it goes missing, as if it vanquished.

3) The confusion between Luffy’s Gear 3 and Gear 4

During the Monster Trio’s formidable combo attack, Luffy activates his Gear 4 transformation to use a move called Gum-Gum Elephant Whip. But the “Elephant” is typically used by Luffy to indicate his post-timeskip Gear 3 techniques, such as Gum-Gum Elephant Gun and Gum-Gum Elephant Gatling.

Even the attack itself worked like a typical Gear 3 move, as Luffy enlarged his leg, imbued it with Armament Haki Hardening, and swung it to deliver a powerful kick. In both functionality and aesthetic appearance, Gear 3 techniques are very different from those of Gear 4. It’s almost impossible to confuse them.

When using Gear 3, Luffy inflates his bones, making his body parts huge like those of a giant to increase his raw strength. Gear 4, on the other hand, revolves around Luffy covering his entire body with Armament Haki and retracting his limbs to suddenly discharge them in order to maximize the power and speed of his blows.

Based on both the naming scheme and the functioning of Gum-Gum Elephant Whip, it appears to be a Gear 3 attack, the upgraded version of Luffy’s previous Gum-Gum Gigant Whip. However, in One Piece chapter 1127, it’s explicitly called a Gear 4 technique. There is no possible misunderstanding on this as the number is objectively visible in the Japanese raw scans.

It’s entirely possible that this was a typo by Eiichiro Oda and that the mangaka will fix it in the volume release. There’s also the possibility that Luffy is now able to activate Gear 4 even just for selected parts of his body, to use it in short, controlled bursts much like he learned to do with Gear 2 and Gear 3 after the timeskip. The fact remains, however, that this is an absolutely glaring inconsistency, and it’s certainly not the only one in the chapter.

4) The changes in Luffy’s outfit and weapon

Of all the various mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127, this is probably the most obvious one. It’s so evident that it can hardly be an oversight, unless both Oda and his entire staff suddenly became inattentive to their own manga.

When Luffy appears, there is absolutely nothing on his back. The following panel shows him with a long sword strapped to his back. Oddly enough, in the very next panel the sword on Luffy’s back has become an ax. The drawing is very clear, making easy to see the wooden handle and the curved blade of the ax in the exact same spot where before there was a sword, and prior to that nothing.

Throughout the entire story of One Piece, Luffy has never stopped wearing his iconic straw hat, which was given to him by Shanks when he was a child. Much more than a simple garment, Luffy’s straw hat is the symbol of his dreams. In One Piece chapter 1127, the straw hat was nowhere to be seen. Unless it was completely covered by the Viking-styled helmet, this is another red flag that something is amiss.

5) Sanji’s bugs inconsistency

Sanji is known to be particularly afraid of insects. During the Straw Hat crew’s adventures in Jaya and Skypiea, he lierally freaked out at the sight of moths and spiders. Perhaps, this is because such creatures remind him of when his father jailed him in a dark, scary underground dungeon. Sanji was a child at the time, so the experience has marked him forever.

Whatever the reason, Sanji has an evident entomophobia. This makes his behavior in One Piece chapter 1127 absolutely unusual, as he talks about cooking and eating bugs with no problem whatsoever, even praising their nutritional properties. Sanji is the cook of the Straw Hat Pirates, so preparing nourishing foods is part of his job, but this scene felt weird.

6) Other minor mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127

There are some other minor mistakes in One Piece chapter 1127, such as Zoro starting his attack with the Wado Ichimonji sword in his mouth held pointing to his right, but ending it with it pointing to his left.

Also, Usopp’s bag disappears and reappears randomly depending on the panel. These errors are very trivial, and may very well be insignificant oversights, but when added to the many others featured in the chapter it’s hard to see them as simple accidents.

Is Loki hallucinating the Straw Hats in One Piece chapter 1127?

One Piece author Eiichiro Oda has been waiting for more than twenty years to finally show his readers the Elbaf Arc. It’s really hard to believe that he would be so careless as to leave all these mistakes in a single chapter, especially considering both his attention to details and the fact that this was the debut of the Elbaf Arc in the manga.

In One Piece chapter 1127, things really do change from one panel to the next, at times even in panels drawn right to each other. From an outsider’s perspective, it would seem that everyone is under the effect of a mass hallucination. As in a dreamland where nothing makes sense, the Straw Hats misinterpret one another like Alice in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.

Interestingly, the chapter seems to follow the story of Alice, but depicted in reverse and from Nami’s point of view. At the end of Carroll’s story, Alice is woken up by her sister, who calls her name. During her adventure, Alice makes a huge jump without getting hurt from the fall. She also meets a cat with shapeshifting powers as well as some hedgehogs.

It may be just an incredible coincidence, but Nami meets hedgehogs, runs into a cat that transforms into a lion, and doesn’t get hurt despite falling from a huge height. All these things happen after she gets woken up by someone who calls her name.

The Straw Hat Pirates recently drank Absinthe along with the Giant Warrior Pirates. A strong liquor distilled from herbs, Absinthe is also known as “green fairy” for its hallucinogenic properties. The fact that the Straw Hats ended up drinking too much Absinthe was explicitly mentioned in One Piece chapter 1127 as a possible cause for their alleged hallucinations.

The Straw Hats are now on Elbaf, a land whose culture is based on Nordic folklore, and whose leader is a prince named, oddly enough, Loki. It’s safe to say that One Piece’s Prince Loki derives his name from the homonymous Norse deity. In the Norse mythology, Loki was known as the “God of Mischief” for his shapeshifting powers, which he used to act as a naughty and malicious trickster.

Also considering that Loki’s traditional symbolic color is green, it’s possible that the “green fairy” was one of tricks. For some reason, Prince Loki may have used it to deceive and mislead the Straw Hats upon their arrival in Elbaf. In fact, in One Piece chapter 1127 the Straw Hats acted as someone who knows their roles but is unaware of their unique individual peculiarities would expect them to do.

As the second-in-command, Zoro is expected to care about his crewmates and keep track of their whereabouts, as he does in the chapter. Still, anyone who really knows Zoro would know about his hilarious “ability” to get lost in any circumstance, meaning that he would lose himself before finding his comrades.

Likewise, as the cook of the crew, Sanji is expected to prepare foods, so it makes sense for him to talk about the nutritional properties of insects. But Sanji probably wouldn’t pronounce those words, as he wants nothing to do with insects, having a phobia for them. Based on this, as well as the fact that the Straw Hats found themselves inside a huge and yet childish edifice, there’s a high chance that Loki hallucinated them and is now playing with them like dolls inside his castle.
