The Fairy Tail series is quite popular among anime and manga fans. It is quite unique in the sense that fans’ perception of the series puts the show in a tough spot. Usually, netizens have extreme opinions, either absolutely loving the show or completely detesting it.

Objectively, there isn’t a lot in the series that makes it an interesting episode. It has a formula that it uses unabashedly and the stakes are never high. Most deaths in the series haven’t lasted because they find a way to bring these characters back.

The Jujutsu Kaisen series has ended, and netizens have had their qualms about the series. They thoroughly enjoyed the show, but many of their favorite characters died in the series. Fairy Tail is a good example of how a show can be loved without having to kill off fan favorites in the series.

Fans enjoying Fairy Tail is proof enough that Jujutsu Kaisen didn’t have to kill fan favorites for the plot

As mentioned earlier, Fairy Tail is a show that relies a lot on the theme of friendship. In fact, there are several memes surrounding this show because of the importance that lies in it. Fans also know that it follows many shonen tropes, which can be tiring to watch.

The protagonist is beaten easily, he proceeds to train and then overcomes the same villain that defeated them. More often than not, the protagonist overcomes obstacles with the power of friendship. This is a pattern that has prevailed in the show since its inception. Another interesting trend is that no important characters die in the series.

Despite the criticism that the show gets, fans still love watching it. Jujutsu Kaisen is undeniably an entertaining show to watch and has undeniably played a role in making anime mainstream. However, many of the fans’ favorite characters die in the series. There were a total of 12 deaths in the second season alone. Among them, some of the fan favorites were Toji Fushiguro, Nanami Kento, and Riko Amanai.

Unlike Jujutsu Kaisen, Fairy Tail doesn’t kill its characters for its plot to progress. There is no doubt that certain deaths are important since they serve as important plot points. Furthermore, deaths also have an emotional impact on the readers—a result that certain manga authors seek.

However, it isn’t particularly necessary for the plot to progress. Jujutsu Kaisen fans have acknowledged that there were plenty of meaningless deaths from a plot progression standpoint. For example, the deaths of Nanami and Principal Yaga were either unnecessary or not impactful since the story progressed without any hitch.

Conclusion

The deaths of characters are important in certain cases. However, Jujutsu Kaisen had one too many deaths in the series, which could have been avoided. The fact that fans love watching Fairy Tail proves that deaths aren’t always necessary for plot progression.

Hiro Mashima’s series doesn’t kill off important characters. While this has been criticized, the plot was able to progress steadily. Therefore, it is important to assess the character that needs to be killed as well as the intention of doing so.
