Bleach fans have been reacting to an X (formerly Twitter) post displaying a fanart of one of the manga/anime's most popular characters, Byakuya Kuchiki. In the fanart, Byakuya is seen holding hands with his late wife, Hisana, proclaiming, "I love my wife."

The fanart apparently brought forth the issue of a large section of fans being unable to distinguish Hisana from Rukia. The mixed reactions led to a few fans dubbing this fanart a litmus test for the fans.

Byakuya and Hisana fanart becomes a Bleach fans' litmus test

Bleach's popularity has skyrocketed in recent times due to its return, and fans are revisiting its manga. One aspect drawing their attention is the romantic relationships in the series, and Byakuya is one of the primary characters whose romantic life ended in tragedy.

The head of the Kuchiki clan fell in love with Hisana and was married to her for five years. Their relationship had a tragic end after Hisana died of an illness. Her death is told in flashbacks and doesn't have as much screen time, but readers can feel the depths of love Byakuya had for Hisana.

Hisana's death also transforms Byakuya and is a huge reason why he initially appears as an antagonist. The tragedy makes his character more relatable.

There are many examples of relationships sprinkled around the manga, from Kaien and Miyako to Rukia and Renji. However, none of their relationships held as much intrigue as Byakuya and Hisana because the former disobeyed the Kuchiki clan to be with Hisana.

What are Bleach fans saying about the fanart?

An X (formerly Twitter) user, Antatica (@Antatica11), recently posted a fanart reflecting Byakuya's deep love for his wife. Many fans wholeheartedly praised the work.

"So rare to see Byakuya and his wife in an art Lovely piece!" praised a fan.
"Byakuya happy such a rare sight", said another.

However, this art generated some confusion. Since Hisana heavily resembles her sister, whom Byakuya later adopted as his own sister, Rukia, the two characters are easily confused for one another.

"Isn't she his sister??" asked a fan.
"But she is his sister. Wby would he marry his sister?" wondered another user.

This led some fans to berate their own fandom for not knowing their characters, while others believed that the comments on this fanart prove who has really read or watched the series.

"I think i gona use this fan art to find out who truly watch Bleach and who doesn’t," said a fan.
"You really have to know Bleach to understand this" said a netizen.

Some other fans were simply happy to see Hisana in fanarts. As she only appears in a small portion of the manga and anime, most fans believe she doesn't have nearly enough screen time.

"People be forgetting about Rukia's entire sister as if she wasn't a fundamental cornerstone of Byakuya's arc," said one user.
"We need more Hisana contents," remarked another user.
"to be fair hisana and rukia look damm near identical, took me a second to see the clothes and realize it was hisana, i really wish we could see more flashbacks of hisana and byakuya, i wanna know what he was like as a husband if he's so devoted to her after her death, " said a netizen.

Conclusions

Bleach: Thousand Year Blood War has put the series in the public eye once more. Due to its critical acclaim, fans have had to dust their manga to read just to immerse themselves in the fictional world. A lot of fans have begun to ask questions about events that occurred in the past.

Though Byakuya and Hisana's relationship was barely given much time throughout the manga, it is still integral to understanding the former's character.
