One Piece Live Action season 2 is set to be released in 2025 on Netflix. This comes after the popularity and overwhelming success of the first season and the announcement made in 2023 about the show’s return, which had fans eagerly waiting for more updates. Particularly surprising is the casting of David Dastmalchian as Mr. 3, a character introduced in Eiichiro Oda's manga during the Little Garden Arc. In the story, Mr. 3, also known as Galdino, appears alongside Miss Goldenweek, both working for an organization named Baroque Works.

The popular American actor, David Dastmalchian, is known for his performances in films like The Dark Knight, The Suicide Squad, Dune, and Late Night with the Devil. Interestingly, he is also a huge anime fan.

He was asked if his love for anime had any impact on his acting style. To this, he responded by saying that he had not had many chances to explore the unique narrative and performance style of anime, as it stands in stark contrast to Western entertainment. However, he expressed his eagerness to be a part of future anime adaptations, stating that he looks forward to any opportunity to challenge himself.

Dastmalchian also discussed the exaggerated facial expressions and actions of anime characters, drawing parallels with an early form of Italian theater, commedia dell'arte. It is with exploring fatherhood, especially, that he has found an opportunity to explore new anime as well, although his favorites seem to remain Vampire Hunter D and Black Butler.

In fact, he expressed his interest in playing anime characters like Vampire Hunter D and Sebastian Michaelis in live-action adaptations. Given his desire to play such dark anime characters and all the characters he has played in the past, it is not hard to imagine him excelling in these roles.

In this interview as well as in another recent one, he has mentioned his love for One Piece. Interestingly, the latter took place before the news of his casting as Mr. 3 was made official, but it is possible that he had already been in talks with the makers. But it goes on to show his genuine love for anime and his excitement to be a part of such adaptations.
