From the very beginning of the Chainsaw Man series, Denji's life has been a rollercoaster that only seems to go down. In fact, Denji is a character who never seems to catch a break, as things get progressively worse for him with each passing chapter of the manga.
As a result, Chainsaw Man's mangaka, Tatsuki Fujimoto, has gained worldwide notoriety for making the main character of his series suffer innumerable tragedies and for indiscriminately killing off beloved characters.
That said, the latest developments in chapter 170 of the manga took things to a whole different level, as fans are now comparing Fujimoto to Jujutsu Kaisen's mangaka, Gege Akutami, who is also renowned for the same infamous quality of making his protagonist suffer relentlessly as the former.

How Denji's latest suffering in Chainsaw Man chapter 170 caused an uproar among fans
Following the latest development in Chainsaw Man chapter 170, fans have been more or less convinced that Tatsuki Fujimoto had likely created Denji to only suffer one tragedy after the other throughout the series.
In a shocking twist, Fujimoto seemingly killed off the fan-favorite character Nayuta in chapter 170 of the manga, after weeks of building up her and Denji's long-awaited reunion. The incident took place inside the sushi restaurant where Denji and his allies encountered Barem, who went on to reveal that he would allow the former to meet Nayuta, only if Denji followed his commands.
After treating him to a few plates of sushi in the latest chapter, Barem revealed that he wanted Denji to fully transform into Chainsaw Man's most powerful form. In order to achieve that, however, he required two things - for Chainsaw Man to be feared by everyone and Denji's unhappiness.
While the first criterion was already fulfilled due to the recent events, in order to meet the second criterion, Barem did something that no one would have ever imagined.
As he called for some 'Deluxe Fatty Tuna' to be sent down the conveyor belt, both the characters present as well as the readers were shocked to discover Nayuta's severed head on a platter. It was a development that horrified fans to their very core, whereas a broken Denji could do nothing other than stare at the decapitated head of the girl he considered to be his younger sister.
The fact that Denji had to go through something so traumatic yet again in the latest chapter of the manga, in addition to everything that has happened so far, caused a literal uproar among fans on social media. Many even compared Fujimoto to Jujutsu Kaisen's mangaka, Gege Akutami, who had a similar habit of making the main character of his manga suffer endlessly by killing everyone dear to him.
Fans put Tatsuki Fujimoto in the same league as Gege Akutami after Chainsaw Man chapter 170
Like Fujimoto, Gege Akutami has also gained notoriety for mercilessly killing off beloved characters and making Yuji Itadori suffer in the worst possible ways. Seeing as to how the two mangaka have more in common than initially thought, fans started comparing the two and even claimed that they are currently in a competition to determine who can make their main characters suffer the most.
"Tatsuki Fujimoto vs Gege Akutami fighting over who can give their main character the most trauma," said one fan.
"Gege and Fujimoto competing to see who can make a bigger bounty on their head," said another.
"Fujimoto got gege beat now in terms of making his mc suffer this is ridiculous," another chimed in.
"Gege passing on the role of traumatising the readers to fujimoto while he is on a break," claimed one fan.
However, as some eagle-eyed fans pointed out, all hope may not be lost for Denji yet. Apparently, the severed head that seemingly belonged to Nayuta, had a key feature missing that may prove that she is still alive.
The said feature is a small mole under her left eye, which was a pretty noticeable feature of her face. The fact that the mole is missing from the severed head in Chainsaw Man chapter 170, may indicate that this gruesome display may be nothing more than a part of Barem's scheme to turn Denji into the fearsome Chainsaw Man monster.
However, it is all but speculation at this point, as fans must wait till the release of the next chapter to find out the truth about Nayuta's fate.
