The My Hero Academia and Erased series endings have recently become a topic of discussion within the anime fandom. While not many fans might have expected these fandoms to be discussed simultaneously, the lack of confirmation regarding the IzuOcha ship in the finale has become a problem bigger than the fandom itself.
The finale of My Hero Academia was recently revealed, tying up many different plot points, including Bakugo and Izuku’s hero careers. Although many fans expected Horikoshi to finalize the relationships built up throughout the story, the final chapter further increased ambiguity and kept the final state of these relationships open-ended.

My Hero Academia fans experience a fraction of the Erased anime fans
The relationship between Izuku and Ochaco, popularly known as IzuOcha, which had been developed since the entrance exam, remained unconfirmed. This led to a surge of memes about the IzuOcha ship, suggesting it was merely a tease from Horikoshi without any closure or confirmation.
This sentiment eventually reached the Erased fandom, which has been experiencing a similar fate since the series ended in 2016. In the Erased anime, the protagonist Satoru travels back in time to prevent the murder of Kayo, one of his childhood friends.
This leads Satoru into direct confrontation with the actual culprit, resulting in Satoru falling into a coma. He wakes up almost a decade later, only to find out that Kayo, whom he had saved, now has a family with his best friend. While the fandom of this series has been vocal about their dissatisfaction with the ending, My Hero Academia’s finale has managed to share this pain with a much wider audience.
Fan reactions to the My Hero Academia ending
Few Erased fans have expressed how the pain that they had been suffering since the series' ending could now finally be experienced by other fandoms. While the ending of the Erased anime and whether the protagonist should've ended up with the female lead character is a topic of debate, the majority of the fandom is still upset with the actual ending.
"My Hero Academia fans experiencing 0.1% of the Erased fans' suffering," one fan said.
"I hate when mangaka set sh** up then pull out the rug from under you," another fan said.
Many fans expressed how the ending just torments them more every time it is mentioned. Few other fans mentioned how the entire situation is very similar to the Naruto series ending where the NaruHina ship ended up being unconfirmed only for it to be confirmed in a canon movie that came out afterwards.
"This ending gets so much worse every time I think about it holy," another fan mentioned.
"Maybe they will go the Naruto route and do a post story movie?" One fan said.
The ending for Horikoshi's series has become one of the most dividing endings of a manga to come out in recent times. While the finale marked the end of the series, it is still possible that the story received extra canon content in the form of movies.
