The One Piece and Boruto fandoms have always been among the most vocal on the planet, surpassing even the likes of Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia when it comes to comparing other series with their own.
Although Eiichiro Oda's series has already been established as the highest-selling manga currently ongoing, with over 500 million worldwide sales, the fandom of Ikemoto's series has repeatedly used MANGA Plus as a metric against Eiichiro Oda's series, leading to routine clashes between these two opposing fanbases.
The most recent disagreement was sparked by fans of Ikemoto's series comparing MANGA Plus views with other series, despite these views being considered poor indicators of a series' success.
One Piece and Boruto fandoms clash over their manga's popularity
The fandoms of Eiichiro Oda’s and Ikemoto’s series have routinely clashed, partly due to being some of the most vocal fanbases on the planet. While the former has used arguments such as worldbuilding, story quality, and numerous adaptations as metrics for success, fans of Ikemoto’s series have historically relied on MANGA Plus views as a measure of success.
Some fans of Ikemoto’s series attempted to compare their series’ MANGA Plus views against those of Jujutsu Kaisen and Eiichiro Oda’s series, which enraged the majority of the One Piece fandom.
Fan reaction to Boruto fans using MANGA Plus as a metric
Several One Piece fans responded by sharing actual achievements of their series in comparison to everything Naruto's successor series has accomplished, claiming that fans of Ikemoto's series always rely on MANGA Plus since it is the only area in which the series somewhat excels.
Other fans posed rhetorical questions about the character acting as MANGA Plus' face, further emphasizing One Piece's superiority. Many others mentioned how the fans of Ikemoto's series don't even buy physical copies of their manga.
"Out of context but who is face of the app manga+ ?," One fan said.
"Boruto fans are too broke to purchase offline." Another fan said.
Some fans pointed out that flexing MANGA Plus views is the only thing Boruto's fandom can do since the series has historically had low sales. Many also tried to associate the Boruto series with Naruto by mentioning how some within the fandom choose to support what is perceived as an inferior series.
"Flexing MangaPlus views. 😭 that's all they can do coz they can't achieve 100k sales," One fan wrote.
"Naruto/Boruto fans and always in denial. Sadly, people stan for franchises that are garbage," another fan said.
While MANGA Plus is one of the few legal sources available that facilitates the free reading of manga, leading to high traffic, it is important to note that these views don't necessarily quantify the success of a manga. The actual metric used to measure success has always been total manga sales, according to which Eiichiro Oda's series surpasses nearly every other series globally.
