Mizuki explained that she is the club president and shared that her broadcasting club has competed in the prestigious national NHK contest, including a recitation division.
Despite Mizuki's enthusiasm, Hana declines the offer, citing logistical challenges—joining a club would mean missing the last ferry home. However, Mizuki remains undeterred, departing with a resolve to convince Hana to join the club in the future.
Flower and Asura episode 1: A fresh chapter begins for Hana at her new school
In Flower and Asura episode 1, Hana begins her life at her new school. Shortly after arriving on campus, Mizuki and another club member approach her again. Although Hana declines to join, Mizuki remarks that Hana's talent is worth pursuing.
Later, Hana befriends Miko, and as they discuss potential club activities, Hana remains uncertain about joining the broadcasting club. At this time, Mizuki performs a poem recitation broadcast on behalf of the principal. Her words resonate deeply, not only with Hana but with the entire student body.
On her ferry ride home, Hana continues to wrestle with her indecision, practicing a recitation of her own. Mizuki, who secretly boarded the ferry, seizes the opportunity to persuade Hana further.
As it's the last ferry of the day, Mizuki ends up staying overnight at Hana's house. During dinner, Hana's mother shares insights into her daughter's life, revealing that Hana has no friends her age on the island and has taken on the role of a big sister to the local children, always striving to set a good example.
She suggests that Hana might secretly want to join the broadcasting club and asks Mizuki to be a supportive friend, which Mizuki gladly promises to do.
Later that night, as the two girls chat, Hana opens up about her struggles with self-hatred, stemming from what she perceives as her own cowardice. Mizuki disagrees and urges Hana to seek and embrace her true self.
Flower and Asura episode 1 closing events: Hana joins the broadcasting club
In the ending scenes of Flower and Asura episode 1, upon waking up and realizing Hana isn't around, Mizuki eventually finds her alone on the seashore, passionately reciting lines. Awestruck by the depth of her performance, Mizuki insists that she join the broadcasting club.

She had arranged for the ferry's operating hours to be adjusted to accommodate Hana's club schedule, with the last ferry on weekdays now leaving later. With her wish granted, Hana officially begins her journey as part of the broadcasting club. The episode wraps up on a heartfelt note as Hana is welcomed into the club.
