Frieren: Beyond Journey's End chapter 135 was released by VIZ MEDIA on October 9, 2024. The chapter primarily focuses on Wehrlos and his leisurely walks through the town, eventually leading him to encounter Sein, who is conveniently in the same city.

The previous chapter ended with Lore tracking Frieren and her party using the silver coins Frieren had laced with magic. Chapter 135 portrayed Lore’s retaliation, which successfully incapacitated Stark without much of a fight. Sein did not get involved or encounter the party, but it is heavily implied that he will do so in the next chapter.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Chapter 135 begins with Wehrlos seeking Clematis's help to save a severely injured cat. However, this proves futile as Clematis reveals that the cat is beyond saving, suggesting it would be better to simply pray for its salvation. Wehrlos refuses, stating that the cat will return to nothingness after death and thus has no need for salvation before walking away with the cat.

Fortunately, Sein appears unexpectedly and finds Wehrlos sitting on a bench with the injured cat. Sein heals the cat, much to Wehrlos's surprise. In gratitude, Wehrlos offers Sein some alcohol as payment, but Sein declines and instead asks for information about "Gorilla," the childhood friend he has been searching for. Wehrlos, puzzled, says he cannot remember anyone by that name.

The old dwarf warrior then suggests that Sein follow him to a bar where they might be able to gather information about the warrior called Gorilla. As they walk, Wehrlos inquires about Sein's connection to Gorilla.

After learning that Gorilla and Sein were childhood friends who promised to become adventurers, Wehrlos clarifies the situation. He then remarks on the absurdity of everything when Sein admits that he doesn’t even know Gorilla's real name.

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Chapter 135 then shifts to Lore, who instructs the shadow warriors, Wolf and Gazelle, to assume battle positions. Frieren detects their movements and tries to flee, but she is shot at by an arrow that Stark intercepts with his body.

The archer, Wolf, commends Stark’s quick reaction and his talent, making the situation even more "unfortunate." Frieren and her party take cover and assess the situation, recognizing Wolf’s impressive skill, as he managed to target them several blocks away.

Fern attempts to fire back at Wolf, but Frieren stops her and instructs the party to escape the Shadow Warrior's detection range somehow. The scene then cuts back to Sein and Wehrlos, who have arrived at the bar where Lore is conducting the operation against Frieren.

Schritt, who is posing as a vagrant guard, dismisses both Wehrlos and Sein. Despite this, Wehrlos tries to lead Sein into the bar through a secret passage he supposedly knows. However, Sein suddenly detects Frieren's mana and breaks away from Wehrlos, claiming he has urgent business.

Meanwhile, the elven mage and her party deduce that Lore must use "Goddess's magic" to track their location. Elsewhere, Lore instructs Wolf to move to a different vantage point, assuming that Wolf has already dealt with Stark. The chapter ends with Stark collapsing and Frieren assessing that he has been poisoned.

Final thoughts

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End Chapter 135 primarily focused on Sein’s return to the story while setting up his eventual reunion with the party. Wolf’s dialogue and overall demeanor strongly implied that Stark had been poisoned with a fatal toxin, creating a situation that Sein might be able to resolve.

The brief dialogue between Sein and Wehrlos also subtly hinted that the dwarf warrior knew Sein’s friend, who could possibly be one of Wehrlos’s past targets or victims. It’s possible that Sein will discover Wehrlos’s involvement, and the old dwarf warrior may eventually betray the shadow warriors to atone for his past atrocities and repay Sein for healing his cat.
