One Piece chapter 1125 was recently leaked and there have been a lot of discussions regarding several plot points, One of the most prominent was how Imu killed Jay Garcia Saturn and Garling Figarland took over his position at the Gorosei. While this was a shocking moment in itself, some elements could point out a much deeper reason for this change.
A One Piece fan on X named @BlacktyonteXavi has recently come up with a theory that explains how Saturn and Figarland could have a deeper connection, which is something that author Eiichiro Oda might have wanted to convey with this change. This could play a pivotal role moving forward, especially considering the many different real-life references that Oda tends to use to come up with his characters.

The possible connection between Figarland and Saturn in One Piece
This theory starts by stating that Garling turning into the new member of the Gorosei could not be random, as author Eiichiro Oda would have modeled his creation and that of Jay Garcia Saturn on two holy Roman Emperors, Ferdinand I and Charles V, who happened to be brothers. Charles V was the fifth of his name and Saturn came through a star, with the 5th number, while also wielding canes and similar hats.
Ferdinand was Charles' youngest brother and had most of the latter's titles and achievements, to the point that the former was taught science, which fits with this title of the Gorosei. Figarland and Saturn might not be related as a family, but this theory potentially suggests that the former is someone capable enough to take over this position.
Following this logic, Figarland might have a strong connection with Nusjuro since Ferdinand had a bond with the German Banking Family “The Fuggers”, especially Jakob Fugger, who looks a lot like that member of the Gorosei. All of this could explain why Saturn and Figarland were placed together during the God Valley incident, since it means that Oda was already establishing this connection.
The role Figarland might have in the story
One Piece has a lot of mysterious characters, but the role of Garling Figarland might be one of the most interesting cases, especially now because he has become a member of the Gorosei.
He was established as the Supreme Commander of the Holy Knights and is a former God Valley "champion", which means that he is someone who always had a major role within the World Government.
A lot of people have also associated the character with Shanks because some colored versions of the manga had Figarland depicted as having red hair, something that further emphasizes this connection.
Fans have often theorized that Shanks is a former Celestial Dragon, much like Donquixote Doflamingo was, and that he was a Figarland, although it is worth pointing out this is mere fan speculation as of this writing.
Final thoughts
The idea of Saturn and Figarland having a connection would be quite an interesting twist in One Piece, especially considering the events that were leaked in chapter 1125. However, this is mere fan speculation at the moment.
