The conclusion of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series left many fans unsatisfied with the way the fan-favorite character, Gojo Satoru, was handled. As the most powerful sorcerer and a significant character in the series, Gojo had been central to the narrative, serving as both a mentor and a crucial ally when the heroes needed help.

Nonetheless, readers have been bold enough to openly express their disagreements regarding Gege Akutami and how he handled Gojo's character arc in the last chapter (Chapter 271). They think that he made a "complete joke" out of Gojo by providing him with an unsatisfactory and improper conclusion.

Gojo Satoru's unceremonious exit from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga

During the last chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, the fandom was confident they would witness an appropriate sendoff for Gojo Satoru, recognizing him as the strongest sorcerer in the entire series.

After a prolonged absence, his reappearance generated considerable excitement among fans, who believed he would make a grand return and play a significant role in the story's conclusion.

However, they were left disheartened when he was defeated by Ryomen Sukuna in the Shinjuku Showdown arc and appeared in only a few panels in the final chapter of the manga.

Aside from this minor appearance, there wasn't any proper farewell ceremony for Gojo Satoru. No burial service or any other form of commemoration was organized, and as a result, many fans feel that, like Gojo himself, their memories of him were treated lightly by Gege.

Some have even claimed that Akutami's decision to push Gojo into the background during the final event is a transparent manifestation of the author's hate for Gojo. The consequences of such an act are far-reaching. Not giving Gojo a proper farewell confirms the other characters' view that he was merely a powerful weapon, and not a complex human being with ambitions, dreams, and desires of his own.

The Jujutsu Kaisen fandom had grown to deeply care for Gojo, and his unceremonious exit was seen as a betrayal of that emotional investment.

This is not the first time Gege Akutami has faced complaints from the fandom. The author is notorious for making daring and controversial creative decisions that often contradict the expectations and desires of the fanbase.

In previous cases, Gege has allegedly emphasized entertainment over narrative coherence, as evidenced by the abrupt and apparently random deaths of many significant characters. The author's readiness to undermine tropes and disobey genre standards has received both gratitude and backlash from the Jujutsu Kaisen community.

Nevertheless, the handling of Gojo Satoru's end in the manga has struck a bitter note with the audience. Many believe that this step downplays the character's essence and significance in the overall storyline. The notion that Gege has totally ridiculed Gojo's character has added to the creator's unfavorable record of making divisive artistic choices, driving away a considerable part of the fanbase.

The controversy surrounding Gege Akutami's treatment of Gojo Satoru in the manga finale highlights the complex relationship between creators and their fan base. On the one hand, praise can be given for the creator's willingness to shock and defy expectations. On the other hand, situations in which beloved and deeply developed characters are treated unkindly can harm the overall reception of the work.
