Gege Akutami's latest interview confirms the status of Satoru Gojo's parents in Jujutsu Kaisen

Jujutsu Kaisen's Gojo Satoru is arguably the most popular animanga character in the present-day scenario. There is little to dislike and a ton to love about him that makes him a household name worldwide. Hailed as the Strongest Sorcerer of the modern era, the series has done well to show off his abilities and techniques.

With the culmination of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, his High School days were glimpsed, showcasing how and why he became what he is seen as today. While a decent bit is known about him, what remains shrouded in mystery is his actual childhood and, more so, the status of his parents and clan members.

Fortunately, creator Gege Akutami revealed quite a bit about the beloved Six Eyes user in an official booklet of Jujutsu Kaisen's Gojo released on August 8 with the Jump Giga Summer 2024.

In the booklet, Akutami revealed that Gojo was born in Kyoto, where his clan's main house was. He moved to Jujutsu Tech to get away from his "overbearing family." As for his parents, Akutami said they were alive and gained a higher status within the clan due to Gojo Satoru.

However, they were not particularly strong sorcerers, so they separated from Gojo early on because they could not be involved in his education as a sorcerer. Moreover, Gojo was an only child, but being in one of the three big clans meant he had many relatives. However, he probably did not have normal interactions with them because he was treated as someone special.

Akutami also revealed that before his time at Jujutsu Tech, Gojo was trained by his clan. He underwent rigid education and training and even went on missions. Akutami also mentioned that Gojo's personality was his strength and weakness. Among other information, the mangaka also revealed that Gojo likely suffered from preventing Suguru Geto's defection and dedicated himself to nurturing the next generation.

These insights from Akutami shed light on Gojo Satoru, the individual, not Gojo Satoru, the Strongest Sorcerer. His statements show that Gojo's responsibilities began as soon as he was born. Being the first in 400 years to inherit both the Six Eyes and Limitless meant a difficult life for the child.

In Akutami's words, the title of "The Strongest" was very heavy. He had to carry the burden of expectation from a young age and thus, as the "special one," was put through the wringer. This burden probably caused him to want to put distance between himself and the clan. Even in death, he is not allowed to rest due to his overwhelming skillset.

Moreover, Akutami points to Gojo's personality as his strength and weakness. He can be nonchalant and playful to his students, friends, close colleagues, etc., but equally unsympathetic and cold to sorcerer executives and enemies. Beneath the mantle of "the strongest," Gojo has a soft heart. It is exactly this that has put him in and helped him escape situations. He cares deeply for those close to him, but he gets vulnerable when his emotions are prodded.
