Jujutsu Kaisen will mark its end with the release of chapter 271 on September 29, 2024. The alleged spoilers for chapter 271 have already been released. Although the much-anticipated return of Gojo or any major plot twist did not occur in the final chapter, it did delve into Sukuna's new state of mind and his decision after being defeated by Yuji in the series' final fight.

Chapter 271 shows Sukuna and Uraume walking into the afterlife to re-enter the cycle of souls, with Sukuna reflecting on how he previously had to choose between Uraume and an unknown figure. This, along with the portrayal of Sukuna and Uraume resembling a parent and child, led many fans to believe they shared a bond similar to that of a parent and child.

Sukuna and Uraume have served as the primary antagonistic duo for the sorcerers ever since Sukuna was freed from being contained within Yuji. While their interactions made it clear that Uraume held great respect and reverence for Sukuna, the true nature of their relationship was never explicitly revealed.

Sukuna and Uraume often exhibited a master-servant dynamic, with Sukuna embodying a divine figure worshipped by Uraume. Both characters met their ends in chapter 269, with Sukuna being purged and Uraume resigning to their fate.

However, chapter 271 sheds light on the state of their souls after the battle. In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271, it was revealed that souls must travel through a space to re-enter the cycle of life and death. Upon Sukuna and Uraume's arrival in this space, Sukuna was questioned by Mahito, which led to the revelation that Sukuna had previously faced two entirely different life paths.

One of these paths involved a decision concerning a young Uraume, while the other revolved around an unnamed character. During their conversation, the now-young Uraume sheds tears, and Sukuna comforts them, embodying a parent guiding and accompanying a child.

Sukuna eventually leaves Mahito and re-enters the cycle of life alongside Uraume. This interaction presents Sukuna as a guardian figure to Uraume, possibly indicating that he might have saved Uraume from a grim fate during the Heian Era.

This could have led to Uraume accepting Sukuna as a guardian, with Sukuna unknowingly embracing that role. Chapter 271 portrays Sukuna as a dignified, parental figure rather than a typical evil master. Gege Akutami may have intended to emphasize their close guardian-ward relationship, contrasting with the typical master-servant dynamic.

Final thoughts

Jujutsu Kaisen's story has ended without any announcement or indication of a part 2 or a spin-off. The anime is currently ongoing and will be releasing Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 in 2025. It is still possible that a part 2 will be announced alongside the release of season 3 of the anime.
