Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266: A gut-wrenching Yuji-Gojo parallel takes readers back to Megumi's first meeting with Gojo
The alleged spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 tugged at the heartstrings of fans in more than one way. It featured a long-awaited interaction between Megumi Fushiguro and Yuji Itadori.
But it also led readers to believe for a moment that Yuji may have finally decided to let go of his resolve to save Megumi's life, due to an unexpected yet emotional Yuji-Gojo parallel.
At the very beginning of the chapter, Megumi is seen telling Yuji about how he wanted to create a world where his sister, Tsumiki Fushiguro, wouldn't have to suffer needlessly.
For him, even simple things like eating home-cooked meals, watching sunlight falling on his and his sister's hanged laundry, and seeing her off as she walked beside Yuji, would have brought true happiness.
However, none of this has any possibility of happening anymore, seeing as to how he seemingly blames himself for his sister's death. Upon hearing this, Yuji relayed to Megumi the story of how his grandfather had turned down treatment for his lung cancer.
Also, how since coming to Jujutsu High, he found himself being able to empathize with his grandfather or anyone stuck in a helpless situation.
As such, Yuji was able to realize how helpless Megumi must have felt due to his current predicament. Therefore claimed that he could not tell the latter to simply keep on living.
Afterward, during Yuji's battle against Sukuna, there was one particular moment that caught fans off-guard and at the same time, made them fear for Megumi's fate. It was the scene where Megumi met Satoru Gojo for the first time, only in this case, Yuji was standing before Megumi instead of their blindfolded teacher.
As Megumi asked Yuji the same question he had asked Gojo during their first encounter, about the latter making a peculiar face, Yuji replied with tearful eyes, that he would be lonely without Megumi around.
The saddest thing about this parallel is that it not only took readers back to Gojo's first meeting with Megumi, but it also seemingly hinted at it being Megumi's last interaction with Yuji. This moment can be inferred as Yuji tearfully bidding Megumi goodbye, after empathizing with his decision to not keep living.
However, Gege Akutami provided fans with a sliver of hope right after this scene. Megumi apparently decided to start fighting back against Sukuna and used his Ten Shadows technique to assist Yuji in landing a devastating punch on the King of Curses.
Seeing Megumi finally fighting back made Yuji visibly smile while in the midst of the battle, as he continued to try and free his friend from Sukuna's clutches.
Given that Sukuna himself claimed that Yuji's Soul Dismantle attack had managed to breathe new life into Megumi's soul, which he had previously submerged with the "Bath" ritual. It seems like it is only a matter of time before the connection between their body is completely severed.
In any case, the final battle has been confirmed to be heading towards its climax in next week's chapter of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. It has undoubtedly created a feeling of bittersweetness among the fans.
