A key event in Jujutsu Kaisen’s narrative is Suguru Geto’s decision to abandon sorcerer society and forge his own path to eliminate Cursed Spirits from the world. This choice had profound effects on the larger story, directly influencing Kenjaku’s prominence and role in the series, especially when it comes to sealing Satoru Gojo.
Understandably, many Jujutsu Kaisen characters opposed Geto’s plan since it essentially involved the genocide of all humans who weren’t sorcerers. This was due to the fact that non-sorcerers couldn’t control their Cursed Energy, and thus let it seep out and create Cursed Spirits. Yet even beyond the moral implications, there’s another massive flaw in Geto’s plan which even he overlooked.
Geto’s plan for non-sorcerer humans in Jujutsu Kaisen would have achieved the exact opposite of his goal
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Geto’s plan was to kill all non-sorcerers because their inability to control Cursed Energy born from their negative emotions is what creates Cursed Spirits. Since non-sorcerer humans cannot regulate their Cursed Energy, Geto viewed killing them as the easiest and best solution.
However, one key aspect of Cursed Spirit formation is that the larger and more existential a fear and emotion is, the more powerful the Cursed Spirit born from it will be. Likewise, human hatred and the depths it can go to can lead to incredibly powerful Cursed Spirits being born from these intense emotions.
Therein lies the problem for Geto’s plan within the world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Eventually, non-sorcerer humans will discover that Geto’s group is planning to systematically kill them all for something out of their control. Moreover, they’ll also learn he’s doing so via an army of, in their eyes, invisible demonic soldiers with supernatural powers and abilities.
This will create massive levels of existential dread and horror in these humans. In turn, this would lead to the birth of a Cursed Spirit powerful enough to dwarf the strength of all those who came before it. Given the intensity of these emotions and the scale of people who’d be feeling them, this Cursed Spirit may even be too powerful for Geto or Gojo to handle themselves.
This would ring especially true if Geto followed through with killing not just all Japanese citizens, but all humans in the world. While the phenomenon of Cursed Energy is restricted to Japan almost exclusively, it’s possible that such levels of fear would awaken Cursed Energy in foreigners.
This has been stated as possible due to the stress of death, so knowledge of Geto’s plan and the constant stress it creates could cause a similar, pre-death change.
On that note, it’s even possible that multiple Cursed Spirits on the aforementioned level of strength could be born from the world’s varying regions. Breaking it down even further by culture could lead to potentially hundreds of spirits being born from Geto’s plan. In the end, Geto may reduce the number of Cursed Spirits with his plan, but he’ll fail to eradicate them and create the strongest Cursed Spirits ever seen in the end.
Final thoughts
Clearly, Geto’s plan had a major flaw which even he didn’t consider. Even in the context of Japan only, it’s likely that his plan would’ve directly led to the creation of the most powerful Cursed Spirit(s) ever recorded in sorcery society history.
Likewise, this further proves Yuki Tsukumo’s approach of teaching all of humanity to utilize and regulate their Cursed Energy as the right choice. This is because sorcerers themselves don’t create curses unless they die and return as vengeful spirits. While Geto’s plan was certainly easier, it’s clear that it would’ve been the wrong path to take.
