Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271's alleged spoilers marked the end of the series. Although a major portion of the fanbase had been expecting Gojo's return in the final chapter of the series, fans merely got a few panels of him conversing with Yuji and nothing more.

The conspicuous lack of mentions of Satoru Gojo's name in the final few chapters led many to believe that Gege was setting up the character's return. However, the build-up culminating in a single flashback ended up frustrating fans, who took to social networking sites to express their disdain for Gojo's treatment in the story.

Jujutsu Kaisen's ending sends off Gojo with an anticlimactic end

Satoru Gojo is inarguably one of the most popular and beloved characters to have risen to prominence in recent times. Although Gojo is a side character, his popularity often rivaled, and even surpassed, that of the series itself. Gojo died in chapter 236 of the manga at the hands of Sukuna, and theories regarding his return began circulating ever since.

Many fans expected the alleged spoilers of Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271 to hint at Gojo's resurrection or, at the very least, his actual burial as a worst-case but still acceptable scenario. However, despite being the most impactful character in the series, he simply appeared for a few panels in a flashback.

Fan reactions to Gojo's end

Many fans expressed that Gojo's character deserved much better treatment. They also stated that Gege would never stop hearing about Gojo despite allegedly disliking the character. Some mentioned that Gojo's role as a mere weapon continued until the final chapter, where none of his students or friends were shown mourning him.

Others speculated that Gege might have intentionally placed Gojo in a single flashback in the final chapter to end the belief among fans that Gojo would finally return.

"Gege putting Gojo in the final chapter just to make gojo stans sad one last time is absolutely diabolical work," one fan said.
"so gojo really was a weapon in the end to everyone huh? no one gaf about his death he wasn’t brought up at all EVERYONE SHOULD GO DIE," another fan said.

Fans also highlighted how Satoru Gojo, the strongest sorcerer, became a victim of poor plot choices and writing despite being a key reason for Jujutsu Kaisen's popularity.

Some pointed out that while Megumi’s sister received closure with a scene showing her grave and Megumi burying her, nothing similar was done for Gojo. Many felt that Gege's dislike for Gojo was better handled when it was treated as a lighthearted joke rather than affecting the story.

"GOJO SATORU a Victim of Bad Plot Choices And Writing💔," one fan wrote.
"Gege gave us a proper burial for megumi’s sister not even Gojo or Geto this is so tragic," another fan wrote.
"i miss when gege hating gojo used to be a joke," one fan mentioned.

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 271 will officially be released on September 29, 2024 (ET), marking the end of the series. No part 2 has been announced yet, but a continuation could be revealed alongside Jujutsu Kaisen season 3, which is expected to adapt the Culling Games arc and release in 2025.
