Gojo Satoru from Jujutsu Kaisen is undoubtedly one of the most, if not the most, popular animanga characters. A protagonist of the series, he stood as "The Strongest Sorcerer" with mind-bending abilities and techniques up his sleeve that he wielded with an uncanny ease.
Nearly the entire world was taken up by his charm, goofiness, and nonchalant personality when he was introduced. However, his sealing and then subsequent death in the manga was a major blow for all those who loved the white-haired sorcerer. Moreover, his twisted return caused more anguish for those who were pining for the Six Eyes user to make an emphatic comeback.
Now, a recent theory has surfaced that might further prick fans — Gojo Satoru may not have mastered Limitless after all. The theory comes from a digital artist who uses color theory to come up with such speculation.
Disclaimer: This article is speculative in nature.
Jujutsu Kaisen theory explains why Gojo may not have mastered Limitless
To begin with, we refer back to Gojo's bout with Toji Fushiguro. After the fight, Gojo trained deucedly to master his Limitless and Reverse Cursed Technique (RCT). We later see him explaining it to Geto and Shoko while flipping a pen between his fingers, applying red, blue, white, and cyan. While it might seem like a Gojo thing, maybe it has more meaning.
A true master of Limitless would likely have control over all these "colors." But what are White and Cyan? Let's break it down. Red repels by using Negative Energy to create Positive Energy (-1*-1=1). Blue attracts by bending space and creating negative distance. Red and Blue make Purple, which combines Repulsion and Attraction to destroy whatever lies before it. But then, what makes White?
In digital art, White comes from combining Red, Blue, and Green. Given what Red and Blue are, Green needs to be explained. Red and Blue are physical forces: Attraction and Repulsion. However, there are also non-contact forces: electromagnetic, gravitational, and nuclear. In this theory, Green leverages one or all of them. Nuclear won't work as it functions at a microscopic level, not Gojo's fighting style, and Gravitational is way too large.
Thus, Green could likely manipulate electromagnetic force. This means Gojo could control the volume of speakers, microwave food without a microwave, etc. Considering the Jujutsu Kaisen universe, these would be useless to him except for a few applications:
- Manipulate the frequency/wavelength of reflected light to make red objects appear green.
- See ultraviolet waves/X-rays.
- Possibly blind someone during a battle.
The other plausible option would relate to another of Red and Blue's similarities: positive and negative energy. With negative energy being the series' most prominent and positive being rare (RCT), Green could be neutral energy (NE). Gojo created Blue (positive) through -1*-1=1 with Cursed Technique (CT), but for Green, he would need to do -1/-1=0.
As for what NE is, science steps in through the concept of Thermoneutrality — an organism's metabolic state in an environmental temperature at which it doesn't have to generate or lose heat. This can be furthered by saying that "thermoneutral energy" is the energy stored in the core at which the core doesn't require more or less energy to be maintained; vis-a-vis, the energy it has is neutral.
An NE example is going on a date with someone who makes you neither excited nor disinterested. So, for Jujutsu Kaisen, NE would be even rarer than positive energy. Only Gojo or a very seasoned Limitless user would probably know of/be able to use it. For NE's function, according to the previous statement, it would force everything into a neutral state, i.e., negative or positive energy fired at NE would return to their Cursed Energy-wise thermoneutral state.
Considering this assumption, Gojo would be close to no use for NE or Green, given his other abilities. This could be why he never used it or trained to improve it. Finally, combining positive, negative, and neutral to gain White or Zero. While Red and Blue produce Purple, which destroys, White could vaporize or do nothing. The NE will simply nullify both positive and negative energy that is being combined with it.
Lastly, Jujutsu Kaisen states that Toji's Inverted Spear of Heaven was imbued with a CT powered by a "special foreign type of CE" that stopped any other technique it touched. Here, it would be Gojo's Limitless. What if NE was exactly that? As mentioned, NE might be rare, but not impossible. Green could be available to all but just not doable by all, like RCT.
Accounting for the theory explained above, with knowledge (speculated) of Red and Blue and less training with Green and White, Gojo might not have truly mastered Limitless.
