Satoru Gojo is arguably the most integral character in the Jujutsu Kaisen story, despite being a side character. Although he was born into the prestigious Gojo family, along with the inherited Limitless technique and the Six Eyes, Gojo’s rise to the status of "The Strongest" did not happen until Toji managed to actually take his life.
While Gojo always had confidence in his abilities since birth, his overall change in demeanor, along with his incredible focus and dedication toward perfecting his technique, eventually earned him the moniker of "The Strongest."
The Hidden Inventory arc and its events stand as the origin of almost every integral plot point in the story. It is possible that all of Gojo’s actions after the events of the Hidden Inventory arc were a response to the trauma caused by Toji, as well as Geto's defection from the jujutsu sorcerers.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Satoru Gojo's entire journey was dictated by Toji Fushiguro
Satoru Gojo was born into the Gojo clan, along with the Six Eyes and the coveted Limitless technique, which essentially made him one of the strongest entities in jujutsu society. This status also came with extensive spoiling at the hands of the influential Gojo clan.
All of this led to an overwhelming sense of confidence, which manifested as borderline arrogance within Gojo. While, at his core, Gojo remained a conventional good person, he did not have a moral compass or an established moral groundwork to anchor himself to.
Geto, in contrast, was starkly different from Gojo. He was born into a regular human family, had a viable cursed technique, and held a strong belief in the moral system and the place of humans in the overall relationship between cursed spirits and jujutsu sorcerers. By extension, Geto believed in the system that was already in place. Contrary to Geto, Gojo existed outside the system as a completely self-sufficient entity and relied on Geto and his guidance.
Geto served as the anchor that kept Gojo grounded in the system and other humans. After Toji's interference and Haibara's death, Geto’s belief in the system and regular humans imploded, leading him down a dark path. In the same incident where Toji broke through Limitless and defeated the "invincible" Gojo, Gojo dedicated himself to training to a point where nothing could make contact with him anymore.
Throughout the process, Gojo’s ideal worldview was centered on himself as the strongest, with Geto by his side. However, Geto’s separation must have forced Gojo to mature and pursue a future where nearly every sorcerer was strong, along with a concrete worldview and moral compass. Gojo and Geto, together, created a single entity, with Gojo mainly embodying strength and Geto embodying a strong moral compass and anchor.
The loss of Geto started a downward spiral for both characters, with Geto literally dying and Gojo never recovering from their separation. Gojo similarly inherited Geto’s disdain for the loss of jujutsu sorcerer lives and consequently tried to achieve a future where sorcerers possessed the strong traits of both Gojo and Geto’s personalities..
Final Thoughts
Jujutsu Kaisen ended with a total of 271 chapters and Gojo dying at the hands of Sukuna. While many fans expected Gojo to return in the very last chapter, it did not happen. A continuation or part 2 of the manga was not announced, but given that Jujutsu Kaisen season 3 is currently scheduled for release in 2025, it is possible that sequel announcements may be made alongside the new season of the anime.
