Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again episode 3 recap
In the previous episode, Shouzou and Ine reminisced about their early years. Shouzou, after finishing school, went into farming, while Ine attended a girls' school in Tokyo. It was a luxurious period for Ine since she could eat white rice anytime she wanted, and there was always water in the faucet. The war forced her back to the countryside, but meeting Shouzou helped her overcome this disappointment.
The episode then showed Shiori introducing her grandparents to a video game about zombies in a rice field in order to test their skills. Contrary to Shiori's expectations, Shouzou and Ine quickly mastered the game and bagged every trophy.
Shouzou had another dream about the giant hourglass that night. It made him realize that he had been carelessly enjoying life while ignoring unfinished business. However, he accidentally inverted the hourglass and woke up as an old man again.
Ine comforted him, saying her love for him was based on who he was as a person, not his age. Shouzou realized that he had viewed being old as a bad thing and had given up, but it was disrespectful to the life he had shared with his wife.
Next, they visited Takahiro, who observed that Shouzou's health had marginally improved. However, he was concerned about Ine since, as while she was currently healthy and youthful, if she became old again, she might not live for very long.
The episode also showed Shouzou winning an arm-wrestling contest against Yoshiaki, and feeling embarrassed in public due to his apparent age gap with Ine, and Ine refraining from eating mame daifuku in his presence. Despite this, they were still able to provide comfort to one another.
A flashback then showed how, after losing her family and home, Ine moved in with relatives. Despite the challenges she endured as a result of her city upbringing, she found solace in the jinja.
This is where she met Shouzou, who would regularly bring her food and chat. Initially, Ine was dismissive of him, but was curious to see if he could win her over. Reflecting on these memories, Ine acknowledged that he had indeed suceeded.
Shouzou became young again by flipping the hourglass in his dream. When Ine saw him, she expressed her fear of outliving her children and grandchildren. Shouzou comforted her, explaining that their time, like the sands of the hourglass, was limited. It was likely they would depart together after a few years.
