With the release of Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 1, the anime reintroduced fans to the world of "Grisaia." Principal Sengoku's cousin Taiga Sengoku enrolled in the Mihama Academy, hoping to become a SORD agent. Unfortunately, not long after she began her training, she got into trouble.
Grisaia: Phantom Trigger is the next part of the story of Mihama Academy after The Fruit of Grisaia. Mihama Academy is now a school for training agents called SORD who take underworld jobs that the police and SDF can't. Day and night, they work secretly to bring the boom down on bad guys. It's their job to stop trouble before it gets out of hand.
Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 1 - Taiga begins her physical training
Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 1, titled Mother's Cradle, opened by depicting Arisaka sensei's perspective on her life in Mihama Academy. While she was still trying to get accustomed to the school's culture, she helped out with others, like in the case of Aoi Haruto's Bamboo Soldier class as seen in the anime.
Moments later, Principal Ichiru Sengoku informed Arisaka about her new student Taiga Sengoku. Taiga was seemingly the eldest daughter of the head family of Sengoku. Despite being a child, she wanted to become a SORD agent, and her family complied. Thus, Ichiru effectively wanted Taiga to experience what's it like out in the field for the next three months to realize how difficult it is to be an agent.
Right after, Taiga Sengoku introduced herself to her new class. Surprisingly, both Ren Fukami and Haruto Aoi already knew her. While Taiga herself did not want any special treatment, Haruto could not have her be treated the same as everyone else. Hence, he assigned Christina as her superior. She was doubtful about her qualifications but accepted the role.
The anime then gave fans a look at Taiga Sengoku partaking in different classes. She did reasonably well in explosive detection and shuriken practice. She observed Touka and Megumi's Sniper training but got stuck at shooting practice with Ren Fukami. This is because she lacked the physical strength and stamina to handle a gun's recoil.
Hence, Taiga began her physical training under Christina's supervision. She was persistent about staying consistent and trained every day no matter what. With that, the anime showed the growing connection between Taiga and Christina. The anime showed Christina snuggling with Taiga when she had a nightmare and giving her a piggyback ride after she got hurt during training.
The anime ended with Christina informing Haruto about Taiga having gone to Kitaoka Medical University to qualify as a paramedic. Just then, they learned from the news that an explosive had gone off near Mt. Kitaoka, possibly at the Kitaoka Medical University campus.
Final thoughts on Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 1
Grisaia: Phantom Trigger Episode 1 ending with Christina, Haruto, and others learning about the explosive that went off at Kitaoka Medical University suggests that the next episode will focus on the SORD agents responding to the danger. Hence, the next episode will be action-packed as the agents head to the university to safeguard it from possible terrorists.
